Isle Of Jura Journey Bottling Note

Journey is the entry level expression from the Isle of Jura range (which was relaunched in mid-2018). It was aged exclusively in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. A tasty introduction to Jura's single malts.

Nose: Melted butter, sugared almond, a very light hint of smoke.

Palate: Honeyed-drenched pear, toffee and pencil shavings.

Finish: Oily walnut and light apricot sweetness.

Isle Of Jura Journey Reviews

Suspect poor ratings being paid for

Lovely whiskey

22nd November 2020

This tasted like getting punched in the throat by the queens bodyguard. Honestly thought I was going to throw up with every sip I took. Absolutely bloody diabolical, devil juice

12th November 2020

Just enough peat to make it interesting

Don't know about pencil shavings because I've never tasted them but I do think there is a hint of pepper on the palate. A lovely malt!

6th November 2020

30 years plus of reminiscing in a single glass

Takes me back 30 years to when I first tasted Jura when it wasn’t a fashionable whisky.
Journey tastes very much like the bottling from 30 years ago which was my introduction to decent malt whisky.
Entry level it may be but it noses well and is good quality, unpretentious easy drinking malt whisky.

27th October 2020

Value for money

I honestly don't know what all the bad reviews are all about? I'm getting this from the Coop for £22 a bottle and think that represents excellent value. It's in no way harsh or rough.

5th October 2020

Overall a nice dram.

Lots of negative reviews here. Not especially pronounced in flavour, and fairly understated on the palate, but still enjoyable and smooth. Notes of smoke on the nose, and toffee and sweetness on the palate, with a medium finish. Very enjoyable.

30th September 2020

Rough as a badgers....

Rough. Assumed it would be quality as it's jura, but definitely not. Tastes cheap and leaves a headache.

23rd September 2020

Harsh ... avoid

15th August 2020

Very poor

Words cannot describe how bad this nas is,no character whatsoever this has proper put the nas in nasty.

2nd August 2020

Mmm, not sure. Nose with a hint of treacle and mustiness. I'm not overly convinced.
Not too acidic and fairly mild on the palette, doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.
Doesn't seem to be any notes to note.
I've had better Co-Op branded Whisky.

22nd July 2020

I picked this up cheap from a large supermarket, thinking that it was the standard Jura. Once home and taking it out of the box I only noticed then the word “Journey”.

In short it tastes like cheap, generic whisky. I managed half a glass.

Will come again

Can’t believe some of these bad reviews! What strange taste buds some people have!!
In my view ( not an expert) this whisky is smooth, rewardingly fruity with a hint of smoke and is excellent value for money.
Jura ignore the zero.1 and two stars. These people exhibiting poor taste!

8th June 2020

I love this whisky. Almost like a liqueur. This will be my third bottle and would recommend for palatability with a smooth end note.

2nd June 2020

Give it a miss

For me not really got enough going on very plain no kick no depth of flavour , definitely let down the Jura 10 is better ,this one is like whiskey for wimps , got this reduced to 22pound ok for that price but definitely not the 35full price

16th May 2020

Not the best but smooth

Fruity and smooth. Could be slightly lower in price but still one of the smoothest I have had. Can taste slightly soapy

24th March 2020

Ok for entry level

Expected more, nowhere as nice as the Superstition

8th March 2020

Harsh and very rough.

Awful. This has absolutely nothing going for it. Nasty, cheap and rough. Jura need to watch they don't damage their reputation with one.

10th February 2020

Wonderful complex fruity flavour.

A delicious whisky, first sip full of complex fruit flavours, with a long, smooth finish. Slightly smoky but not overpowered by this. All in all a great drink! Would definitely buy again.

1st January 2020

A dram's a dram for a that

One of those nice finds when it is discounted. Perfectly drinkable, quite sweet but with a hint of dark chocolate at the finish.

15th November 2019

Ten year old origin so much better

Only good for hot toddies

11th November 2019

Great single malt, lovely and smooth, very drinkable

This is a beautiful single malt. From the moment you pour yourself a glass and take a sip it is perfection. I was lucky to get this on offer today and I paid £22, but I would pay more than that. Really smooth to drink, and no burn. Nice gentle smoky taste followed by an amber aftertaste that just lingers and makes you want another sip. I recommend this is drank as single malt is supposed to be drank - no ice, and absolutely no water!

1st November 2019

Nice whisky, nice price

I picked up a bottle of this at Morrisons for £22 expecting not too much.
But this is a solid drop, nicely balanced with a lingering complex finish.
It won't blow you away, but at this price point what will?

18th October 2019

Honestly, i'm not sure how else you would describe this whisky - bland. The American Oak has imparted nothing (maybe the very, very slightest sweetness on the back palate), and the only note I can get on the nose is 'bread'. More reminiscent of a £10 off licence flask than a malt from a reputed distiller - really disappointed in Jura with this one. Not to discourage others from trying their other expressions, as they've generally been good. But this is garbage.

12th October 2019

Overpriced and simply bad

Taste is "soapy" and aftertaste is horrible. Definitely not worth it. Jura 10 us much better drink and only a bit more expensive.

27th September 2019

safe bet

Easy drinking and yes basically bland but inoffensive and at £22 or less from co-op there really is nothing to complain about. I actually prefer this to the one a few years ago with pine - all in all a safe bet.

1st August 2019

Not for me.

Horrid. Not pleasant neat. No better with soda water.

4th July 2019

Lovely, relaxing to drink whisky... I really like this tipple... it's going down very beautifully.

A great starter whiskey.

23rd June 2019

If it ain't broken don't fix it

Proof that some things shouldn't be changed 10yr origin great whiskey journey.....not good, search for 10yr origin or 16yr diurachs own.

16th June 2019

Dont bother

NAS blandness

26th May 2019

so good value for its price.

Simple smooth whiskey which might be too bland for most complex whisky enthusiasts.

11th May 2019

Very nice

Despite negative reviews I really like this whiskey, it’s light, peaty and full of flavour.

25th April 2019

Not worth, weak body.

Its my first experience with Jura, and it is not really good. A little bit watery. High price for this quality.

18th April 2019

Harsh on the palate. Difficult to believe its a single malt. Horrible

I have never been a lover of the peaty malts, and from the description I thought this was supposed to be a little lighter on the peaty flavour. I am so disappointed. There is nothing smooth about this. It really is harsh on the palate and frankly horrible. For the £22 I paid, I could have enjoyed a smooth Jamieson blended whisky from across the water, or better still a triple distilled blended smooth Bushmills for the same money..

21st March 2019

First one of the new Jura range that I've bought and it's not even worth it's price. Hugely lacking in every aspect and immediately forgettable. I realise that this is the most basic expression of the range, but before it was Jura 10yo and it held it's weight, being affordable yet floral, light, welcoming and stylish (when it comes to both - taste and packaging).

This costs the same, but is not even close to old 10yo in any aspect. Looks and tastes cheap and is better avoided.

17th March 2019

Loved all previous ones but Journey is nothing what Jura is about...

Bad :(

31st December 2018

Sweet but lacking anything to set it apart. No smokiness apparent and nothing to qualify as a good single malt. Very disappointed.

26th December 2018

Love this whiskey my Favourite light and fresh

Love this whiskey light fresh and great to taste has taken me away from my fav Irish.

12th November 2018

Not a fan.. Very weak and tasteless to be honest. I expected more from Jura.. And it's overpriced, for the quality alone its should be £25 maximum, not the hefty £35...overall very disappointed...

28th October 2018

Sweet and fruity , enjoyable and straight forward

This is a very nice whisky but more like a light sweet Speyside with no obvious peat , if you expect Isla then you will be disappointed. If you’re not keen on mental peat then you might prefer this. I like it.

12th October 2018

Not a fan.. Just really poor and it has nothing about itself to entice another drink.... Lacks flavour and weak...

2nd September 2018

My favourite at the moment

Very nice sweet whiskey with the slight smokey hint towards the end. A very nice whiskey and a good one to start on.

18th July 2018

Sweet and okay.

Jura and Islay are neighbours so I was hoping for something peaty, smoky, dirty.

This is quite sweet though - reminds me of raisins and dried fruit. I usually like Scotch with a drop or two of water - I don’t think Journey can handle it though.

It’s okay but a little one dimensional. 3* if it’s on offer, 2* if it’s full price.

For the same money I’d rather get a Talisker Skye, Bowmore No.1 or Aberlour 12 depending on what you’re after.
