This 16 year old from the Isle of Jura was a bronze medal winner at the 2004 International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Nose: Fragrant, slightly floral cereal, some minerality at first, becoming increasingly creamy with a hint of orange. Mixed nuts, redcurrant, green apple and finally dark chocolate and spice.
Palate: Oily and resinous with sweet tobacco, mixed nuts, clove, milk chocolate and violet. Rich and round.
Finish: Drying, fragrant oak. After a few sips some chocolate lingers too.
Overall: The whisky of choice for the Isle of Jura's 200 or so inhabitants.

Hi there! The Jura Tastival 2017 or the 12 Year Old would both make a great alternative to this! Jade @ Master of Malt

I absolutely love it and am so disappointed that it’s discontinued. I’m looking for something to substitute for the Jura 16. Are there any recommendations?

On the nose amazingly rich, some floral and citrusy nuances can be noted. No peatiness is observed despite it is an islay whisky appearently like a Speyside single malt. It is a perfect example what 16 years may bring to a whisky, wonderful caramel, vanilla and oaky nuances with dark chocolate notes. Even some very sweet pipe tobacco nuances can be felt. On the palate oily, nuts and sweet tobacco nuances can be noted. Very pleasant and rich. Finish getting drier, floral and long.

On the nose it doesnt look like an islay whisky and I would certainly say this is a mature Highland malt. I think it is because not too much peat was used during manufacturing the whisky. To the nose very pleasant floral , nutty and fruity aromas can be noted. Very rich and amazingly beautiful. On the palate it still tastes like a Speyside malt sweet, nutty and oily. Finish is long chocolate and malty aromas can be nuanced.

It’s the best tasting scotch I had in Scotland. I tried MANY different brands & recipes from all over the scotch map. My tastebuds preferred this and I purchased 2-3 bottles while I was in UK.

I got this and two other Jura sample bottles on the travel retail market. As 2018 has ended this has been discontinued apparently. Matured for the first 14 years in American White Oak barrels and the last 2 years in ex-Amoroso Oloroso sherry casks. On the nose I picked up some of that American oak from a hint of caramel, I had to let the dram breathe a bit after nosing the first time. My first sip introduced me directly to oak notes that transitioned into new wood, which then was followed by all spice. It has a prickling burn to it, more than I would expect from a 40% ABV.The finish was rather swift with mixed nuts and lots and lots of malted barley. Topped off with the dry tannins from the sherry casks and a bitter chocolate ending. This dram from the island of Jura has won a few awards, but it was not very compatible with my palate this time around unfortunately.

We tasted this at the distillery and loved it. Sadly it's no longer in their range. We bought some to take home, but drank it before we got back!
