Islay Mist 17 Year Old Bottling Note

A 17 year old version of the Islay Mist blend, which was launched in the 1920s. This has less of the peaty character of the younger offerings, rather it is more of a highland dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Smooth. Walnut and toffee. Sultanas. Cigar boxes.

Palate: Fruity, heather honey, soft oak and smoke.

Finish: Good length, herbal.

Islay Mist 17 Year Old Reviews

Nope...

I dont get it. Has a 'bite' depite being 17 y/o & a miserly 40% - I somehow expected something smoother. Interestingly the laphroig smoke is apparent at first sip, then somehow becomes more illusive and kind of vanishes for the rest of the glass. Otherwise, it's a respectable blend but falls a long way short of Campbeltown loch 21. Not one to re-order, the search for a decently priced blend goes on!

Great whisky!

Well, I've been looking for reviews of this whisky for a long time, and I came up short. Narry a review to be found, and that includes YouTube. From what I have gathered, this blend is rather hard to come by. There's plenty of it up here in Ontario, and that's where I picked it up at my local LCBO (although, I had to have stock transferred from another store). On the bottle, it claims to be predominantly blended with Laphroiag malts. I didn't really get much Laphroiag when tasting. Rather, I picked up notes that are more familiar to Highland malts (as advertised above by the this site). A little smoke; lots of sweet. This is a great blend that likely gives Ballantine's 17 a run for its money!
