Scarabus Bottling Note

Sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery comes Scarabus, a single malt from Hunter Laing launched for Fèis Ìle 2019. Scarabus means ‘rocky place’ in Old Norse, named after a mystical area of Islay. The whole expression is quite mysterious, from the secretive distillery to the golden symbols adorning the bottle. A very handsome bottling housing delicious Islay whisky.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Classic notes of maritime peat smoke, sea spray and sea salt, with a subtle hint of vanilla and oak spice.

Palate: Oak char, old leather, stewed orchard fruit and vanilla sweetness returning among the smoky peat.

Finish: Lingering bonfire smoke, salted caramel and fresh berries.

Scarabus Reviews

Why?

Nice if a little below average.

Looks good, tastes young and is very poor in my opinion. I don’t get why they’ve done this. Buy whisky, package it and claim they’ve done something... it’s a strange concept... not for me.
