Completing this two-part series, which also included Highland Park Ice Edition, is the Highland Park Fire Edition! Celebrating Muspelheim, the glowing Norse fire realm of destruction, this 15 year old single malt was matured in refill Port casks before being bottled at 45.2% abv. It's presented in a cradle shaped like a mountain (or is it a volcano this time?).
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
This doesn’t shout at you, instead the smoke is discreet backed up with some tasteful saline and red cherry notes.
All about elegance, some delicate wood smoke with fresh orange fruity notes and some caramel.
Long and gently smoky.
It is always a problem when anyone can make a review... I have a bottle of this (and ice). Is it good? Yes. Very good. Is it worth the price tag? That all depends. To some no, to me yes. And I know the packaging is a bit much for some, but the simple fact is it doesn't make the whisky worse. It is there so it would stand out in line of whisky. And it certainly achives that goal. I personally like it. I like the fact it doesn't look like a bottle of whisky. Ok, what about the whisky, I hear you ask. The whisky itself is shoulders above the highland park 18. And I like the 18. This has much more depth, spicyness, vanilla. It is at least as good as the 21 year old. It is not cask strenght for a reason: This is not finished in ex bourbon cask, it spent the entire 15 years in it, and if they left it cask strenght the bourbon flavour I think would be too much. Maybe it could be a little higher, but I recently had it in a tasting along other HP, some much pricier, some higher percentage, and it held it's ground quite nicely.
Fantastically balanced drink full of flavour. A spicier version of the 18. Ignore the usual Reddit trolls below.
£194 (plus free delivery) for a 15 YEAR OLD bottle of whisky, port cask finished, not even cask strength. But it does come with massive marketing and a tacky red bottle. Note how the blurb focusses on the marketing 'story' - which is bollox quite frankly. Go on, rush out and buy it.
This is theft. It's not even that good
A rich and pricey effervecence. 9/11 would recommeed
