Highland Park's Twisted Tattoo combines whisky aged in Spanish Rioja wine seasoned casks with whisky aged in first-fill bourbon casks - a wonderful combination indeed! Inspiration for this one came from the Viking legend of the Midgard Serpent, which got itself twisted around the world to bite its own tail. You can even see said serpent on the bottle's label, designed by tattoo artist Colin Dale.
Nose: Roasted red berries, shortbread, a whiff of sea spray.
Palate: Peppery malt, orange oil, vanilla, cut grass, blueberry muffin and buttered malt loaf.
Finish: Boozy red wine tannins and soft smoke.

Breath in, think of a string orchestra, imagine the smell of all those old but faithfully used instruments: This is how this whiskey smells. It smells old-fashioned. It smells authentic. It smells historic. Now turn on your favourite orchestral and take a sip...

Was well into this bottle before I spotted it was 46.7%. Very drinkable, good next level whisky or entry level. Almost middle of the tasting spectrum but that is the good think!

It was a discover for me as this whisky done something new with my taste. Fresh fruity nose with summer berries and a hint of smoke. On palate more berries, more smoke, but not too much to kill everything else. The way tastes change each other and comeback is like a boat floating. Fantastic!!! Never experienced anything like that. And a long lasting cream and smoke. Mmmmmm..... Thank you Highland Park!!!!

The nicest richest tasting whisky I ever had

Lots of oak and dry tannins on finish. Give it a few drops of water and a few minutes to open up. My first impression was not great but it is growing on me. A malt that rewards patience.

Very much like Full Volume. A solid whisky. Appreciate the age statement and cask information they provided. Completely non chill filtered would be better. If you like HP...you'll like this whisky.

Was given a sample of this recently and my first impressions, as I had labored through a rather uninspired Highland Park 12, was that this is much better than the 12. The flavor profile isn't massively different from the 12 but everything is more subtle, more complex and, most importantly, more flavorsome. It was a lot better than what I was expecting however, for the price, I just didn't see the value to opted against it. I think it is over-valued but the whisky itself is actually very nice.

Correction to last review... It is obviously a 16 year old, not a NAS

Very pleasant dram. Tastes quite young and fresh. In the glass there is no discernable hint of the rioja but it does add a gentle fruitiness on the finish.I just wish they would spend a bit less on packaging and reduce the price to reflect the fact this is another NAS
