Highland Park 14 Year Old Loyalty Of The Wolf

Highland Park 14yo Wolf Bottling Note

Orkeny's Highland Park distillery introduced a trio of Travel Retail market bottlings in 2018, with names based off of creatures important in Viking lore. This particular expression is the Loyalty of the Wolf, a 14 year old single malt drawn from sherry-seasoned American oak casks.

Highland Park 14 Year Old Loyalty Of The Wolf Reviews

Worth a try and not what I was expecting

I will preface this by saying my favourite whiskies are from laphroiag, ardbeg and springbank. It is not the 12 year, and I think it has suffered a bit in online ratings because people are expecting something similar. It is light and sweet. It is slightly vegetative, fermented but fresh on the nose (forgive me for sounding pretentious) and the lightness in the mouth matches. The finish is ever so slightly smokey but the experience is so light it reminds me of a vanilla Japanese sponge cake. If your aren't into smoke or peat I think you would enjoy this. I got this for just over twenty quid for 35cl in a duty free (I was staying somewhere for a short period). I think it was worth it, especially as it was a pleasant surprise. Personally I find the 12 year nothing to write home about, and would rather have a bottle of kilkerran. This is playing a different ball game and has got me interested in HPs other offerings (which is exactly what the travel segment is for).

Pocket of the Otter

Wet, tastes a bit like whisky but more watery.

Whisky to be tested by an expert

On the nose it is peaty and fruity with vanilla and cinnamon notes, complex and beautiful. On the palate it is somewhat sweet with peaty notes. Spices like cinnamon can be perceived, very complex. Finish with peaty and spicy like cinnamon notes. It is such a complex whish that should be assessed by more professional whisky experts.

Smooth Elegant Nice Smoke Wondeefull smell on the nose and lovely taste on the palate that last a while

Just bought me a bottle on 1 liter of it a few days before new years 2018, had a drop of it the weekend before new years eve and i lust say it was really worth the money allthough a bottle here in Sweden om the ship to Danmark costs 620 Swedish crown, again then 1 Litre bottle

Better than Johnnie Walker blue!

Great nose and smooth finish. Should be worth a lot more.

Ghost of Bourbon

Just bought a bottle today at Gatwick on the way home to Canada. Not a usually scotch fan, but I fell in love with the beautiful bottle. I just had a taste, and really enjoyed it. Perhaps my palate is not refined enough to detect "marmalade on toast" (?) I did detect the ghost of Bourbon though. Very nice. This will be great to sip by the fire after a day of skiing.

Sweet smokiness

If someone asks can whisky be sweet, the answer is yes it can. The Loyalty Of The Wolf is sweet. After the first sip it opens up very gently. This is so smooth with a long finish followed by nice smokiness. This is like a sunrise on a warm sunny morning.

You can't lose with Highland Park, Loyalty Of The Wolf proves it once again. (R)
