Highland Park 12yo Bottling Note

Highland Park's spectacular 12 Year Old expression had a full-on Viking make-over in 2017, dubbed Viking Soul (the 18 Year Old is also getting a redesign, too). Stylish new livery and matching sub-name (Viking Honour) aside, the Orcadian single malt Scotch whisky remains the same - delicious as ever!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh, clean and very aromatic. Floral notes abound the senses with a light grassiness. Notes of creamy Manuka honey and a touch of juicy citrus with cream and a well-balanced sweetness.

Palate: Rather full with a pleasant depth. Lurking somewhere in the substratum a grilled orange lies. Notes of granary toast and green tea with jasmine. A touch of sweetness.

Finish: Quite long with peppery spice and wood shavings.

Highland Park 12 Year Old - Viking Honour Reviews

Excellent taste & value.

Not sure what some of the other reviewers drink. I find it a Very Good blended scotch. Excellent balance and price/value/taste. As single malts rise to the stratosphere, it’s fast becoming my daily pre dinner drink.

Ok and that's it!

Definitely in the bottom of my Scotch whiskey "To buy" list. I can drink all ranges...Peaty, Lagavulin, Laphroaig etc, Highland, Balvenie, Lowland, and so on. I love Macallan 12 sherry, lagavulin 16, and many others, however this 12 yr from Highland Park is just an "ok" whiskey. Nothing stands out. It's not bad, but I can't rant and rave about it. Probably won't buy again......I decided for this over Glenmorangie 12yr Quinta Ruban for this weekends enjoyment......I am disappointed. It tastes like a good whiskey after the ice cubes have melted and diluted it. I drink mine neat,, and it tastes watered down right out of the bottle. I agree with other reviews, should have been bottled at a higher Alc/ vol. Even at 43, it's lacking.

Ok whisky

A little bit watery and thin, but it’s also smooth and easy with its flavours. Some smoke, peat, vanilla, soft fruit, citrus. It’s ok, and maybe the nose is more interesting than the palate. The finish is short and mouth-watering. Not bad. Three stars of five, that’s not bad.

Ps. Glenfiddich 12 is also at 40% abv., but its a significant better whisky than this one. My opinion.

Wonderful daily

I've been a fan of this longer than I have been a proper scotch drinker, and it still stands up. I may have other bottles in my collection for special occasions but this is like an old friend I'm always happy to revisit, and who doesn't ask too much of me when I do. Worth every penny!

Watered down good whisky

Makes for a good mixer but isn’t at all complex or smooth compared to many other single malts of a similar age. A cask strength offering could be interesting but this feels like a liqueur, too watery at 40% for the flavours to be meaningful enough.

Mouthful of Yellowstone

Heavy on sulfur... overpowers what could potentially be an interesting dram. Not recommended neat.

Excellent All-Rounder

Simply an amazing everyday sipper.

A very nice smooth, slightly smoky one.

Introduced to this by a friend who claims it is his favourite. Its very nice, smooth, easy drinking and I enjoy it with a wee bit of ice, the chill the ice gives and the water as it melts opens this whisky with every sip. A great nose of honey, floral and oak. Slightly smoked the palate is spicy, a little bit fruity and the aftertaste is decent length, peaty and sweet. A great whisky at a very affordable price.

Perfect for Whisky Soda

I agree with those who suggest this is best with water, and for the money, thats really what you're buying. For me it's not going to be one that you'd serve as a dram, but marry it with some ice and a good soda and you've got yourself something beautiful; its almost like this whiskey needs the dilution to get the best from it. I like whisky soda as an aperitif or just something to sip and watch the box with and for that, it serves with distinction. Subtly malted, a touch sweet and very very moreish.

A solid whisky, enjoyed best with a splash of water

Not too smoky, but with enough richness of flavour to be well set off by a drop of water.
I used to be a speyside man,.and typically put off by overly strong peat and smoke flavours, but lately forays with whiskeys like this have helped me appreciate the complexity of flavour.

It won't be the finest whisky in the world but its definitely a cut above most.

Really enjoyable, and not so expensive you feel guilty splashing out a good measure whilst watching a favourite film.
