Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is surprisingly rich with notes of waxy honey, leather and zest. Hints of the coast creep in with malty barley sweetness and floral honey. The palate is very woody and peppery with an intense body of seaweed and whirls of smoke with a creamy mouth feel and notes of soft over ripe fruits and plenty of wood. The finish is long and crisp with a tangy spice and gentle smoke.

(Oregon has liquor laws) *that do not allow shipment in or out of the State*

Very nice

The price for this where I live is $52 per 750ml bottle (we get the 43% abv version here in Oregon, USA...other parts in the US sell that version for $30-35). Unfortunately, Oregon has liquor laws that doesn't allow shipment in our out of the state...if I could get this for the price offered here, I'd buy a case. Wonderful example of Highland Park! Decades ago, 8 y.o.s were common, I hope to see more, this is wonderful. Not offensive to those who are afraid of traits common to whiskies from the Island regions, but has enough of them to interest Islay lovers (a hint of smoke, and a touch of iodine). The heather is strong in this one, but everything is nicely balanced. Full flavored entry and middle, with a nice, mellow, clover honey finish that becomes more pronounced with each sip. Richly satisfying. For those who think you have to spend a lot to get a great bottle, I highly recommend that you try this! It's not just good for the price-- it's GOOD. I imagine the %40 (70cl) is a touch sweeter, with more honey notes, and perhaps some fresh fruits and florals, but I wouldn't call it "delicate"...this has quite a lot of flavor at %43.

Smooth and surprisingly toffee creamy

Initially the nose comes across fresh, sweet and with a light sprinkle of smoke - but soon it turns more leather and woody. The taste is slightly fruity ending in a soft smokiness. With a teaspoon of water it changes character and turns more toffee and honeyed sweet and less fruity & smoky. very very nice... especially for the price!
