Vintage Reserve Bottling Note

A combination of ten vintages from Glenrothes, using whiskies that are said to some of the finest examples of their individual vintages. The first release was made up of whiskies from 1989 (said to offer dried fruit and oak notes), 1992, 1997, 1998 (over a quarter of the vatting with plenty of vanilla), 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 (bringing uplifting citrus elements).

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: That citrus certainly comes through but soon richer, honeyed fruit cake with fresh red cherry emerges.

Palate: More red berries and nutty, light fruit cake, apple skin and creamy caramels.

Finish: Sweet nuts, honey and lemon and a hint of cranberry.

Glenrothes Vintage Reserve Reviews

Speyside spectacular

This bottle is getting harder to find now that the line has switched to age statements. That is a shame because this bottle is liquid gold. Beautiful on the nose and on the palate. Vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, this is quintessential speyside. Buy it before it disappears

Outstanding, best of the best.

Best of the reserves by a mile

Glenrothes are so known for their vintages that the reserves they produce often get overlooked. And this one truly should not be. It’s an incredible feat, combining over ten of the vintages into one harmonious dram. It’s fabulous. You can taste all the hallmarks of the Glenrothes—the vanilla, citrus, fruit—-it’s all there as is the spice. This one is a real keeper and affordable too!!

Glenrothes has been a vintage driven line for a few decades now, so it made perfect sense for them to create a house taste combining their top ten vintages. So much complexity here. So much flavor as it dances inside your mouth.

Excellent a Vintage Reserve Glenrothes, from the most flavors, a real must.

Best reserve period

Glenrothes is known for its vintages, but they’ve put out some nice reserves like this one, the Sherry reserve and the bourbon reserve. For me this one is the best of the lot. A marriage of several vintages, it just works on so many levels. Beautiful on the palate and the nose. An absolute must have

Good for a low priced Speyside.
Nose, pallet, all pleasant but agree with a previous review that the finish is a little on the weak side.
If it had a longer, lingering finish, this would be a definite ATF...

Aroma identical to Famous Grouse, taste equal to nail polish.
Very harsh whiskey and does not mellow even with additional ice.
Glad I brought it on offer as I would be very disappointed if I had paid full price.
At least the bottle is nice enough to be an ornament, as drinking it will be a struggle.

Sweet, mellow, and reasonable.

Too drinkable! One small dram each after dinner is the rule but this is so easy to drink we had to stop ourselves from topping our glasses up. Sweet, mellow and just the right amount of warmth after the last mouthful. It doesn’t linger, however, as others have mentioned. Very happy with this purchase.

Nice easy drinking whisky

Nice easy drinking whisky. Smooth and sweet. I give only three and a half stars as I leave room for higher scores of the big flavour hitters. Much better than Glenfiddich and Glenlivet standard releases. If you like sweet Speysiders, this is for you. If you like peaty whiskies, try this later in the night. Goes down well.

Get you some!

I'm nothing of a conoseur of whiskey's nor scotches, but I know what I like. I was gifted my bottle of Glenrothes VR from a friend who also appreciates good scotch whiskey. He was spot on! This is smooth stuff that pleases every time.

Good value for money

Perfect everyday dram!

Easy drinker

An everyday malt that's fairly one dimensional. Still a decent drop.

Incredible pale colour very soft and light palate with a smooth warming finish. One of the best Christmas presents ever.

Amazing nose, very mellow/smooth but unremarkable palate and finish.

Let me preface this review by saying I'm happy with my purchase. Let me take it a step further by saying that I do like this Glenrothes offering and I would put it on par with Glenfiddich or Glenlivit 12, perhaps pulling ahead in some ways. The nose is very pleasant, vanilla, hint of light caramel, honey; the nose raised my expectations dramatically. The palate is extremely mellow, it would make a fantastic gift for a whiskey noob as it's very easy to drink. It's not harsh at all, it's smooth, but the mellowness gives the feeling of muted flavors, they are there, but take a moment to reach the back of your tongue. You taste what you smelled, but with a bit of citrus near the finish. I can't stress enough how mellow and smooth this is. I don't get much finish, but I'll be honest, the finish is not all that important to me, so I don't critique it well. Overall this is a nice Speyside, with a great nose, just enough flavor to be interesting, but so smooth that it lacks something to make it remarkable. I would park it next to 12 and 15 Glens in my cabinet. I would buy this again, and I would recommend it to those who enjoy sweeter Speysides.
