Glenrothes 9 YO 2004 Bottling Note

Matured in a single Sherry butt with an outturn of 782 bottles, this 9 year old Glenrothes would be the perfect whisky for having with your breakfast. Outside of a Tiffany's jewellery store. Probably.

0,5 Stars?

This Glenrothes is a really great bottling. No hint of sulphur at all. Great balance, very rich, sherry and chocolate. The finish is also very lingering

Beware the Sulphur!

Really looking forward to this one as I always enjoy Glenrothes which is a very underrated distillery I believe. However on first nosing I could detect the unmistakable whiff of the dreaded sulphur. The first and only taste confirmed this. It had that awful sulphur coating which has become a real threat to many sherry matured drams. It really was just awful and I did something I have never done before and simply poured out the bottle down the sink. A very expensive and disappointing choice.
Henry Kingston.
