Glenrothes 20yo #5 TBWC Bottling Note

20 year old single malt from Glenrothes in Speyside, independently bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. The ghost of Biawa 'Byeway' Makalaga is still hanging out in the graveyard next to the distillery, enjoying a dram and a read by the moonlight. How peaceful.

Batch 5 is a release of 225 bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: The nose begins with salted butter, with thick caramel and sweet nuts in support. The backdrop is filled with deep, vegetal oak, burnt brown sugar, and truffle oil among oily malt. Prickly hops and some oak spice cut through plum pudding and a very subtle suggestion of smoke.

Palate: Tangy marmalade and clove are most prominent initially, before golden barley and a hint of buttered corn rise over soft, simmering hints of warm oak spices. There’s a little sherried blackberry present, with whole vanilla pods and walnuts in honey in the backdrop.

Finish: Soft vanilla, with the spice and fruit from the palate dissipating in a creamy and clean finish.

Overall: This is an absolute stonker of a Glenrothes.
