Glenrothes 18 (pre 2024)

18 year old single malt from Glenrothes, released as part of the Soleo Collection. This series was named after the process of sun-drying grapes for the production of sherry in Jerez, and as such you should expect plenty of sherry notes throughout the range. This one features a very high proportion of first-fill sherry seasoned oak cask matured whisky at its core.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose Decadent vanilla and orange, with hints of cherry and almond developing.

Palate Still packing plenty of dried fruit notes, alongside crisp pear and a spicy touch of stem ginger.

Finish Lasting sweetness of vanilla and pear, with peppery flourishes.

Capped an 80th birthday celebration
This was very pleasant! Not mind blowing but a nice dram. As a gift to share with my dad on his 80th birthday it ticked all the right boxes. Would I buy it again? Probably not in all honesty, it didn't blow me away. But it was a nice dram. Not something I'd restock, but as a gesture it was lovely and capped a lovely day of fishing, a nice meal out and an end if evening celebration.

A pleasant discovery.
Very smooth, a pleasant surprise having not been exposed to much from Glenrothes. This is inspired me to try more of their offerings. A richer experience that the Glenlivet 18 in my opinion.

Smooth & fruity
I don’t usually rate Glenrothes so highly, but this is very smooth & fruity. Oranges, sultanas, vanilla & Bakewell tart.

Winter Wonderland
There is wonderful fruity complexity and spicy roundness at the same with smooth vanilla sweetness wrapping it all up. Gotta get another bottle at once.

Prickly and harsh.
Not a bad taste, but very prickly on the tongue and unsmooth sensation. Won’t buy again at this price range.

Complexity and depth
Plum, red apple, soy sauce, mushroom, not quite truffle, orange, meaty; spiciness swells slowly into the finish, lingers a bit, and trails off quickly, not a sherry bomb, but very satisfying.

The best Glenrothes I’ve had in years. Better than most of the vintages, and that’s really saying something. I’m enormously impressed by the complexity

Vanilla ice cream !
Very nice bottle. Perfect winter dram and an excellent edition to the rothes single malt legacy. Think vanilla ice cream !
