Glengoyne 21 Bottling Note

A fabulously sherried single malt from Glengoyne, matured predominantly in first fill European oak sherry casks for 21 long years. Its time in the cask has bestowed upon it lovely rich fruity notes with an exceptionally long finish. This fantastic whisky was winner of a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018. Impressive stuff.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Punchy oak, potpourri, cranberries, raspberries, a little malt and figs on the nose.

Palate: Richly sherried. Everything is tangy and spiced - molasses, hot apple cider, Christmas pudding with flaming brandy and a touch of cracked black peppercorns.

Finish: Ends with Oloroso and sweet malt.

Glengoyne 21 Year Old Reviews

Extremely smooth

Very smooth with a mild finish. Slightly sweet. Was at a tasting event on the weekend and this was definitely a favorite all around.

Shadow of the older bottles

Tried the new bottle. Wasn’t keen. Tried it again, was worse. Tried the older bottlings and I 100% agree with previous reviews, the old bottles are beautiful. Get your hands on an older bottle and you won’t be disappointed.

I have to somewhat agree with previous reviews. It’s good, sweet and a decent finish that lasts. But the 18 is better. Or go all out and get the 25!

Feel Betrayed

Very disappointing 21yo. Thought I read it was aged for 21yrs in hand selected sherry casks - doesn't state if its 1st fill which I doubt, as the sherry flavour is very thin. Could have bought an 8yr old Glendronach and would have been happier. "This fantastic whisky was winner of a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018", "Richly sherried", "Christmas pudding with flaming brandy" - superb marketing, sadly I fell for it, hopefully you won't.

Not as it was

With heavy heart I have to agree with the previous posters. This is not the same quality dram that it was a few years ago. And to add insult to the injury, the price jumped by a third last year. So you're paying substantially more for a lesser product. That's just not right.

There are better alternatives for better value out there.

Average at best

The current 21yo offering is a pale shadow of the 21yo of 5 years ago unfortunately.! (Literally)
Not worth £128 compared to other sherry bombs way cheaper

Dreadful stuff

Dreadful stuff. The old bottlings were beautiful. This is not. It is dreadful.

All new wood, dry and thin. None of the richness and flavour of the previous bottlings.

Buy it and be disappointed. I'm warning you.

Good but not great

It makes a good entry in the noise but lacks the finish. Very smooth in tasting but perhaps too smooth. It’s good but would have been great if the price tag was about one third lower.

Great flavor, but lacking finish!

Fabulously rich flavor, flat finish. When I first opened this, i poured three drams. One I sipped immediately, the next I added a couple drops of water to and let sit 15 minutes, and did the same with the last one and let it sit over 30 minutes. While the flavors emerged and there was rich sherry on the palate, the finish fell flat every time. Fairly disappointing.

I hope the next batch is better...

It was enjoyable but not worth the money.
Sherrybomb and great mouthfeel.
There was something really good in there - it tasted like there was some really good old casks in there, and a few not so good casks. Some flavours had difficult presenting themselves... too much going on.. something was off balance. I think this one would be a lot better at higher strenght and with more care when creating/blending the batch.
I felt ripped of with the 43% aswell - Greedy.
