Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Experimental Series - Winter Storm (Batch 1)

Winter Storm (Batch 1) Bottling Note

Another release from the Glenfiddich Experimental Series - the Winter Storm has been finished in icewine casks, inspired by Malt Master Brian Kinsman's visit to the Peller Estates winery in Canada. After 21 years of maturation (Kinsman believes that only older whiskies can stand up to the intense icewine notes), the Glenfiddich single malt is allowed a finishing period in icewine casks for up to six months before bottling.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose: A bouquet of tropical fruit and candied sweets are perfectly balanced with underlying wine notes.

Palate: Soft sweet notes reminiscent of candied fruit and Turkish delight develop into flavours of mouthwatering lychee. The fusion of sweet flavours is soon met with a rich drying sensation from the icewine.

Finish: Short and crisp.

Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Experimental Series - Winter Storm (Batch 1) Reviews

Nice but not for me

Not for me. Too sweet. Keep the Whisky natural. It’s good enough as it is. Nice bottle though. Good collectors item. IPA experiment much better and priced where it should be.

Exceptional is the only word you could use.

This was a fantastic dram that is far and away an experiment in its own right. It was tannin rich and sweet with a short champagne-dry finish. Imagine how difficult it is to create this type of effect while maintaining the delicate nature of ice wine nuances. It was a treat and something quite different for all the right reasons.

Very good, but...not great...not exceptional.

This is a very good whisky...but as a part of their experimental series I expected more. The 21 was tasty in it's own right and appropriately priced at about $135. This is over priced in my opinion because the experimental process didn't sing and sing loudly. If you are going to call this EXPERIMENTAL...then experiment. Turn it up to eleven like the first two releases (IPA and XX). Age it in icewine casks for longer, turn up the ABV a bit. The icewine should sing loudly not whimper. Overall, I would buy it again at a considerably lower price. I cannot recommend it at the 225 euro price tag...maybe at 150 euro.
