The GlenDronach Cask Strength - Batch 3 Whisky 70cl

I picked up a bottle at the GlenDronach distillery in June 2014 along with a bottle each of 21, 18, 15 and 12 year. I've been nursing them along but they are almost gone now. Absolutely my favorite single malt brand.

I'm one of those lucky guys being able to have all batches in my cabinet...! I'm just lucky I started with batch 3 and because I'm completely in love with that one I bought b1 and b2. Batch 1 is in my opinion the less best compared to the other ones. It's still good stuff, but it didn't blew me away and at 1,5 x the price of b2 or b3 you would definitely want to go for b2 or b3. It delivers the flavours mentioned above, don't worry and I'm not going to bother repeating. You need to leave this in the glass for 15 minutes, if you like a drop of water it will pump up the sweetness in both nose and taste, but this is excellent stuff. This is big ***KING whisky, it will be very, very hard to find anything better in this price range (and above)

Nose: Intense sherry, nutty and creamy, sirupy.
Palate: Sherry, sultanas, citrus
Finish: Long, spicy and sweet.
By far the best batch in the GD CS series.

I typically go for smokey more peaty Islay scotches like Laphroaig/Ardbeg but this was a refreshing change of pace. Nose stank of syrup/caramel it had a great mouth feel and it went down neat incredibly well. Sweet stuff right here.

The 'pricey' thread has raised some interesting points, namely - people are judging and scoring produce on price and colour alone. How ridiculous and naive. Beware of false prophets malt mates!

'Tried a sample' raises another issue. Judging a whisky on 'texture' - apparently its smooth!! Next time i get the plasterer in, i might compliment them on there work. For example - " your plaster work is spicy, a touch woody with some saline herbals". Stop describing whisky as smooth, its an adjective for texture not for aroma or flavour.

The whisky is smooth and lush with honey notes and spice. I thought it was worth every penny, and will buy a whole bottle.

As redundant as people commenting on the new macallan 1824 series without trying any of them. "why are they named after color? I don't buy my whisky based on color". No one does idiot point is with good nas whisky if i blender thinks at 8 year old cask would blend superbly with a 20 year old, they can do this without it being judged as an 8 year old; see Aberlour a'Bunadh.

I can't help feeling that the first and only review so far of this special whisky has been based solely on price. If that is true, the score for the whisky itself is redundant
