GlenAllachie 9 Year Old Rye Wood Finish

GlenAllachie 9yo Rye Wood Bottling Note

An intriguing twist on a Speysider here, this GlenAllachie has been finished in rye casks! Initially the single malt was matured in American oak barrels before being transferred to casks which previously held rye whiskey from Kentucky for a finishing period. Eventually it was bottled at nine years old at 48% ABV, full of sufficiently spicy notes from the cask finish.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Heaps of baking spices, with a hit of cinnamon and syrupy fruit, with a drizzle of floral honey and candied orange.

Palate: Honeyed spices, with nutmeg appearing now alongside oak char, dulce de leche and clove-studded orange.

Finish: Dark treacle and more baking spices appear on a tingly finish.

GlenAllachie 9 Year Old Rye Wood Finish Reviews

An intriguing bottle of whisky

Far smoother than you would expect from a 9 year old. Hits every tingle sensor on your tongue and is probably the most viscous malt to pass my lips in half a century. Don't get any spice at all, slight honeyness (not as much as Glengoyne 12) but it clings to your mouth for an eternity. Minutes after you swallow a green apple hits from nowhere!! Dangerously drinkable. Drops half a point for not being a bit more complex flavour wise at this price point.

Delicious

The rye really comes through and adds gorgeous spice to the sweet Speyside goodness

Another gem by Mr Bill Walker and the crew

I was a Gken Dronach man and
Have just really started on the Glenallechie .
This is another delight.
Warm it up slightly and have It with a wee bit of Scottish tablet or fudge .
Incredible
