Glen Garioch - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
We all know Ryan Chetiyawardana is a bit of a wizard when it comes to cocktails (to put it lightly). He was even on the label of That Boutique-y Whisky Company's bottling of Auchentoshan single malt Scotch whisky, mixing up a delicious drink! However, no amount of mixology magic would be able to send him back in time to 1977 to see Glen Garioch heating their greenhouses with excess heat from distillation. So how has the SipStir Superstar done it?
Well, take a look at Ryan's ride parked out back. He's only gone and borrowed the titular time machine from H.G. Wells' The Time Machine! But to what end? Is he there to get the Glen Garioch tomatoes for a dimension-busting Bloody Mary, or simply to find out if Bowmore got the idea for heating a swimming pool with distillation heat from the Highlands distillery? We may never know.
Batch 1 of Glen Garioch is a release of 284 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts, blends and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Thyme honey, shortcrust pastry (with a little apple-y mincemeat inside it) and lemon peel. White pepper, toffee and a touch of stock but still fruity. Buttery notes develop.
Palate
Ginger Nuts, orange zest and buttery barley.
Finish
Drying with mixed fruit and nuts.
Overall
An intriguing little Highland whisky, with an innocuous looking label that is actually a work of the very finest science fiction. Star Wars came out in 1977 too, perhaps Ryan's planning to see it before he goes Back To The Future.
