The Glen Elgin Distillery dates back all the way to 1898, and it's situated up in the Speyside region. Using six stills and six wooden worm tubs, Glen Elgin produces a wonderfully fruity, flavoursome spirit which is very popular among blenders. But blends aren't why we're here – we're here to get the full-on Glen Elgin experience from its ace single malt! This is the 12 year old expression, the only official distillery bottling from Glen Elgin, boasting those aforementioned fruit notes alongside helpings of buttery vanilla and sweet spices.
Cereal sweetness on the nose, with hints of rum spice, a little espresso coffee, toffee apples and ginger.
A soft, malty palate with hints of salty butter, Corinth raisins, walnut loaf and coffee ice-cream.
A long, malt-driven finish with hints of sugary porridge on the tail.
One of my favourite bottles simply lovely
Surprisingly complex rather philosophical, not typical speysider bitter and unexpected flavors, some coffee, nuts, but basically sweet. I like it.
Very smoky, no mention of this on tasting notes on box. Don’t like smoky whiskies so disappointed that those who write these notes cannot taste it. If like me you don’t like smoky whiskies avoid this as you’ll be disappointed like I am
sweet, simple, friendly, well defined, one of my favorites
I have been wanting to try this for sometime now so my wife bought me a bottle for Christmas as I had read good reviews. Let me start by saying that the mouthfeel and ABV at 43% are absolutely perfect but as for taste and smell I find this whisky very mundane. I have trouble picking out any certain flavours or aromas or anything that stands out. Shame I didn’t stick to what I like and add to my usual stock.Nevermind !
