Rye whisky from George Dickel, one of the few distilleries to produce Tennessee whisky! They use 95% rye and 5% malted barley as a mashbill and mature the whisky in barrels with a #4 char and heads with a #2 char. They also "charcoal mellow" their rye, just like they do for their other expressions.

This is a 1 litre bottling.

The bottle doesn't claim to be TN whiskey (nor a straight whiskey).

I now have 3 different bottles that are made from MGP, Indiana 95% rye mash bill "juice". Mine are: Dickel Rye, Ezra Brooks Rye and Rebel Yell Rye. They are all good for the money AND they're all noticeably different. Different enough to be considered distinct whiskies. So please don't think that it's "same" as any other MGP 95/5 rye.

To Dickel's credit, this rye doesn't just taste "filtered" - whatever they did to it, didn't just "take away" things, but must've added things, because I get additional notes on it, that I don't get in the other 2. Not better, just different. I like all 3.

A good value, must-try Rye...

1. This is a tasty rye whisky.
2. True, it's not truly a TN spirit - distilled by MGP of Indiana (same juice as Bulleit Rye, Ezra Rye, Rebel Yell Rye and a few others, but this one is also given the Dickel/Lincoln County Process treatment).
3. 4 years old, 95% rye/5% malt - the standard MGP rye mash bill (from my research)
4. With Rye Whisky "young" is not an insult. I'm not sure if I prefer ryes to bourbons yet, but I certainly do enjoy rye. And younger ryes don't have to taste harsh. My only negative experience with rye is Old Overholt, which isn't bad, just "meh". Rittenhouse and Dickel are highly recommended.

this isn't Tennessee whisky as its distilled by MGP in Indiana .. tasty though
