An exclusive UK single barrel bourbon (selected by Master Distiller Dennis Todd) from Garrison Brothers, the first legal whiskey distillery in Texas. Their previous releases, at the time of writing, have all scored over 90 points in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, indeed, their first 3 year old Cowboy Bourbon scored 96!
Nose: Toasty oak and maple syrup with corn and a touch of star anise.
Palate: Nicely balanced with sweet honeyed notes as well as some brooding clove beneath the surface.
Finish: Fruity rye spice and a light sprinkling of cocoa.
Overall: Straight single barrel bourbon from the Lone Star state.

I'm not a whisky guru but I've tasted enough to know that this is excellent bourbon. I love the unique and very flavorful profile, along with a smoothness and absence of the "soured" finish that I get with a lot of bourbons. Fortunately I got to try it without having to buy it as it is expensive. I don't know if it's worthy of the price but it's worthy of 5 stars in my book. I wish I had a cabinet full of it.

You can taste the quality that goes into making Garrison Brother's bourbon. The single Barrel is my favorite. To date I have tried three different barrels. All three were a little different and excellent. Because it's young the taste of the sweet corn in present along with lots of vanilla, spice and oak. I like it neat. On the quality issue 4oz of the average bourbon will give me a dull headache. However 4oz of Garrison Brothers does not give me a headache.

Tastes like young bourbon, because it is young bourbon. Usually producers try to cover up the young whisky by mixing with older in blends, but this is just flat out young whisky. If you're a fan of this, have at it. But for $100+ per bottle, you better be a big fan of young bourbon. I am not, and I'm glad I had a chance to sample this before buying. The bottle and story are great, but IMO this juice is very immature.

As a Texas resident, I was lucky enough to take a tour of the distillery during a trip to the Hill Country last year. Who knew that the limestone in central Texas was perfect for this? With a little guidance from some of the Tennessee pros, the folks at the distillery are definitely working toward a brilliant product. My husband, brother, and I found the regular GB bourbon to be a tad more astringent than we prefer. Over the course of our Thanksgiving holiday, however, we were given a bottle of the Single Barrel -- what a difference! A nice balance of sweet and spicy, and a smoother finish than the blended. This has become our go-to bourbon, one we share with our closest friends after dinner and over cards.
