Fettercairn Fior Bottling Note

A handsome, smartly packaged Fettercairn. Fior is Gaelic for "true", and the whisky has an astonishingly rich flavour of cocoa, espresso, spices, fruit and almond. We love it. It was released in Summer 2010 as part of the distillery's rebranding process, which is positioning them into the premium market.

Fettercairn Fior Reviews

Dark, complex and sublime

Warm notes, great mouthfeel and a a lot of character. A stronger brother, at say 45% or so, could perhaps be even better.

I quite like it but it isn't my preferred style.

It was quite a surprise. Very rich and complex, strongly bitter-sweet with very low notes and very high. A bit like an alcoholic chocolate caramel orange with pepper. I would say that it's not to be consumed in large quantities because it would overpower the taste buds and it doesn't have a strong enough finish to carry it through. It's all up front. I bought it by accident from a shop that was closing down in the North of England and it probably cost me £20. I don't think I'd pay £45 for another, though.

If you've wasted money on this, best save it for those who add coke

Keep giving Fettertcairn a chance but every version reminds me of why I'm silly to try another. Tasteless , horrid alcohol burn for a low ABV and burn't tyres isn't in my list top flavour . Bad bottle ? Maybe . Given it 3 chances and still the same.

Not nice at all. First glass was like drinking TCP. I decanted the bottle then a few days later the second glass tasted like TCP. After a while I started to get some sweet and spicy notes but all in the veign of Secondary School antiseptic.

Absolutely perfect whisky.

Beautiful on its own. No water. The almond stands very bold. Best whisky I had while traveling Scotland.

Smooth and rich

At a tasting with many other malts costing 4 or 5 times as much the Fior stood out as one of the very best. Deep and rich with chocolate and coffee notes and a smokey finish. Tremendously smooth and balanced. A really nice dram that has become one of my favorite single malts.

Fragrant peat, nuts, and spice.

This is a favourite of mine. Purchased in Winnipeg summer 2016 on a trip home. Hauled back to Seoul where I work. I was thrilled with its strength of flavour despite being 42.3%. Unchillfiltered- great! Price - a little high in Manitoba where taxes are nuts. The price seems very reasonable here for what you're getting. Buy!

Reasonably priced and a nice combination of flavours.
some smokey peat, fruity and a bit medicinal. not crazy about it but happy to have this in my bar and i would recommend this.

Disappointed. Strange taste of something burnt (tyres?) leaving a long finish of just the alcohol. Won't be buying this again.

Amazing whisky for the money

I love Fettercairn Fior. It's a lovely, beautifully balanced whisky. A hint of peat. Smooth but not too smooth. Lots of sherry richness. Perfect after dinner dram. I just finished one bottle (not in one sitting) and am about to buy another!

Tick v.g.

My first Fettercairn. On the basis of this, I'll def be having another.

A little caramel, a little orchard fruit, a little citrus, a little vanilla. Lovely!

Fantastic, full on flavour and one of my new top buys ,!

Great malt. Good smoke, vanilla, and citrus on the nose.

Really stood out with a spicy, toffee on the palate and a hint of licorice.

Finish lasted for al ong time, but did not leave that stomach-peat the next morning.

I would buy a bottle of this!

Final Note: I am doing the 2015 advent calendar. As a result, I get one drink at it to decide if I like it enough to buy more. Sometimes I need to drink something three or four times to make up my mind. Thus, my rating is based on a one-time drink experience.

I first tasted this whiskey in the Advent Calendar. It's smooth and pleasant with great presence. I'd buy this for my bar.

Based on a recommendation from a Scottish nurse, I am trying it!

Not normally a Scotch drinker, mostly bourbon, but this was REALLY a fine balanced single malt. I think I might be converted. :-)

An easy drinker...

I brought this one home with me from a recent trip to Scotland, untasted. I bought it solely on its proximity to other favorites of mine on the taste map and it flavor profile. I'm not disappointed, fruit and coffee on the nose, coffee, caramel and just a little spice on the palate and smooth enough to make me sad I only brought one home.

Fettercairn Fior

I was given this some time ago and it got tucked into the cupboard until last week. This is a smooth and slightly sweet drink with a hint of smoke. A really good nose that the taste does not disappoint. Sadly, it seemed to evaporate rather quickly as within 3 nights of my usual but modest 2 shots a night, the entire bottle had emptied itself.

Fettercairn Fior

I did several tastings at the Grill in Aberdeen during my last trip. At the end of the week, this was my favorite.

Fettercairn Fior

I did a tour of the Fettercairn distillery in September whilst in Scotland on a fishing trip, and ended up trying 4 of their whiskies, from their Fasque at the 'bottom end' of the range, a single cask, and up to their 24yo at £125+ a bottle...out of all of them the Fior was my favourite by a considerable margin!! A really nice whisky (I already had a bottle in my cabinet prior to the visit!).

Fior, remarkable

Wish i'd found this beauty earlier. Sweet, gentle, smokey, fruits, chocolate, candy and much more. Nose and palate surprisingly good. Aftertaste not dry, just gentle fruity, pleasantly fresh.
