Famous Grouse Bottling Note

One of the world's most popular blends, and the best-selling Scotch whisky in Scotland. Famous Grouse is a very nicely balanced, malty blend which was first made in 1896, and would go on to be known as The Famous Grouse, with the name registered in 1905. Around eighty years later, the company was awarded a Royal Warrant. The blend represents great value for money, and it also works beautiful in whisky-based cocktails. Delicious.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: A crisp, light nose offering up notes of toffee apples, hints of dried flowers and biscuity barley.

Palate: Balanced, biscuit-laden palate with a core of thick, creamy malt. Just a hint of spice and the vaguest whisper of smoke really bring a great deal of complexity.

Finish: A slightly sweet, malty finish.

Overall: A very malty, biscuity blend. It's easy to see why this is so popular in Scotland!

Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky Reviews

nasty

never drinking this again made me ill

Absolutely wonderful taste.

First time I drank it was in Scotland Sept. 2019. I had never heard of it until then. I have to say it is the smoothest best tasting Scotch whiskey I have every drank.

Often underrated and always delightful.

Been drinking this for many years. I’ve had many brands of scotch over the years and this is by far one of the best. Don’t be a snob and think this is a low-grade scotch because it is not. Managed a club for many years and this was always top shelf.

Don’t ignore because it’s price. Complex and smooth.

Taste is obviously tuned to the receiver of the gift that is whiskey. So I understand that some will not like and some will. I fear however that Famous Grouse has succumbed to being looked down at by would be self announced whiskey experts. I for one think it’s a fine whiskey with a glorious nose. Very enjoyable as much as some of the good £40 bottles and a few north of that. Famous for a reason as it has stood the test of time and not solely because it’s cheap but because it’s tasty!

Good

Ok some will love it some will hate it.
I don't mind it, my typical tipple is a smokey peat bog ardbeg that's my go to.
This being a blend from Speyside it doesn't have that smokey punch.
The famous grouse I've grown up with my family have drank it for years it's a drink Cabinet staple that is always there for a wee night cap.
Yes it's cheap but and yes its blended so don't compare it to a high end single malt.
I enjoy it is nice easy going and pleasant to drink every now and then.

Like paint stripper

Too harsh, literally like paint stripper. I’d much prefer paying a slight bit more for a much smoother Haig Club or Glenfiddich which are both very smooth tasting whiskies.

Vile Whisky.

Awful, just awful.

17th December 2020

Ok, balanced whisky.

Being a beginner in Whisk(e)y universe, I would consider this an ok drinkable whiskey. But for the prize, I would rather choose High Commissioner, Bell's or Grant's, wich are more lively.
I want to try Famous Grouse Burbon cask or Ruby cask instead.

Not just boring- I find it very unpleasant

I used to think it was decent enough, albeit boring, for a budget scotch back when I had bought it maybe a couple times several years ago.
I just bought it again today for the first time in years, and I find it to be extremely unpleasant. It has an almost acrid aroma, and goes down about as smoothly as that. I could barely even stand it in a Rob Roy. It made me wonder “ has it changed ???”

Enjoyable and on budget

A value for money go, you can find out there.
Enjoyable taste, not that intense but for sure for a couple of rounds it keeps up the tones
