Smokin' Blended Scotch Bottling Note

A fine, smoky blend from Duncan Taylor, first released in February 2013. It puts one in mind of barbecues, bonfires, fine cigars and other manly pursuits, as well as containing a good lick of the south coast of Islay. Suitable for smoke loving ladies as well, we're sure.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: It's smoky alright. Plenty of peat smoke alongside thick, barbecue marinade and wood smoke, burnt sugar and more medicinal stuff. Crikey!

Palate: More peat smoke, black pepper and salted butter. Chewy.

Finish: Guess what? It's smoky! Fading, sticky barbecue sauce, sweet peat smoke and pepper.

Overall: The HP sauce of the whisky world (with a pipe).

Smokin' - The Gentleman’s Dram Reviews

Smokey, Old Fashioned Whisky

A Smokey whisky, on the nose you can smell the peat and smoke, with a hint of barbecue-ish notes. It’s long on the finish and a little harsher than I like, but being a blended whisky it can be forgiven for that. Overall decent to drink, but it does smell a bit like medicine.

I can’t recommend this scotch. Not worth even its low price.

I would give this one out of five stars because I find it harsh, only marginally palatable after chilled and diluted with ice. I like peaty scotch, even Laphroaig, but I bought this on the recommendation of a young guy at Specs in Houston, with the idea that an artful blend can overcome shortcomings from different barrels. This is one botched blend, not worth the low price. It will be poured down the drain, not even shared with my younger guests who’ve yet to develop their tastes.

Giving it 5 stars, so finger/toes etc crossed ;)

Sold - a reviewer compared it to my fave, the original Black Bottle, the "New" BB is such a disappointment so I MUST pick up a bottle of this, purely for research purposes ;)

Two bottle black label scotch whiskey

I like it!

Good value and a bit different.

Based on a 30ml serving:

BBQ smoke, apricot, a bit of spice at the end. Not overly powerful. I'd love to try this at a higher strength, but as it is this is a good value whisky that definitely stands out from the other blends.

Smokin!

To paraphrase a famous ad! Does just what it says on the bottle. If you like a smoky dram, you'll love this! Well priced and sooo smooth.
