Ancient grain whisky from a long-closed distillery? Thank you, Boutique-y. The stills at Dumbarton fell silent in 2002, so it's always a treat when an indie bottling comes around. This one spent 33 years maturing in a single refill hogshead, and it's layered with a moreish medley of baked goods, coconut, and vanilla, balancing delicate hints of herbaceous citrus. A release of 236 bottles.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends, all adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels. The brand won Spirits Bottler of the Year at the 2023 Spirits Business Awards, and Blender of the Year went to Sam Simmons, captain of the Boutique-y clan who oversees every one of these releases.

Nose
Raisin-studded Danish pastries, buttery brioche, and freshly baked canelé pave the way for notes of burnt custard and ripe tropical fruit. Ancient oak and subtle dried herbs nestle deep in the depths.
Palate
Supple layers of creamy butterscotch and crumbly vanilla fudge, lemon meringue, and oaty Anzac coconut biscuits.
Finish
Rich, tannic oak sits comfortably in the distance, with notes of dried pineapple, browned butter, and a smidge of fresh mint.
