Deanston Virgin Oak Bottling Note

Deanston Virgin Oak is made with young whisky which has been finished in brand new oak casks from Kentucky. Always a pleasure to have Deanston single malt Scotch whisky around, as they are certified by the Organic Food Association and power their distillery using hydro energy, so you can always feel good about the delicious dram in your hand.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh citrus, honeyed barley and a subtle hint of smoke.

Palate: Toffee sweets pop up first, followed by a dollop of cream and oak notes.

Finish: Oak spices on the finish.

Overall: Well made, the new oak doesn't take over the whisky at all, which is always a risk with these casks.

Deanston Virgin Oak Reviews

Nice, nice, nice

I picked up a bottle in Ontario, Canada, very well priced at $50, and liked it so much I went back for 2 more. I find it light and sweet, with a toffee-caramel character and a bit of perky lime citrus. It's a delicate one despite its relatively high abv. Pleasant finish but not overly long.

Deserves a spot with my other single malts

Just picked up a bottle and wanted to try it. Beautiful surprise. Really good taste and smooth considering it’s newness. I fully recommend the lovely wee scotch.

Lovely drop and reasonably priced

Really really like this, Bit of wood and some sweetness with a lovely mouthfeel. At 46.3 it doesnt suffer from a touch of water. My current go too. Relatively cheap in SA too. And an absolute antidote the the disappointment that was the Bowmore darkest....will have to give it another try.

A very nice drinker.

Enjoyable whisky. Oak is prevalent of course but sweet. Aroma and taste both opened up and improved with a touch of water. Another good Deanston effort at a good price.

Underrated whisky...

This one is a highlands jem, very fairly priced. And taste older than it is.
Like a golden haired maiden dancing in the meadow...and she is wise and grownup.

Standard Highland whisky done well

This, in my opinion, one of the best value whiskies on the market today. It has a complexity that is generally reserved for bottles costing 2-3x the price. It gets an easy 4.5 stars!

First rate and also a bargain

Not sure I picked up on the citrus, but really was a grand drop. Would just like a little more of the burn.

Lots of oak and nice nose with reasonably good finish.

In Canada this is a $50.00 bottle. Liked it! but I like Deanston’s Whisky anyway so it made this an easy purchase for me. A good well priced whisky that is great value to have and share as a solid DRINKING whisky. Not on my high end bar as a sit down with a good book choice. Great value for what it offers. I honestly liked this one! Thanks Deanston for putting a good affordable whisky out there.

My new “go-to”

Just picked this up for 44$ Canadian, 46.3% un-chill filtered, no colour added.....absolutely nothing to lose on this buy. This one will be my new “go-to” single malt! A flavour bomb that can easily compete with the big boys for a third of the price ;)

Punches above its weight..

A remarkable NAS Highland Single Malt. Classic malty, honey & heather profile, with a hint of baking spice and a long finish for a young scotch. Surprisingly, the new oak does not dominate the flavour profile. Competes well with the Tomatin 12 or the recent revision of the Classic Laddie...both of which are $10-15 CAD more unless the LCBO has a decent sale. Also, good on the distillery for bottling at 46% ABV!
