Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Caramel, custard, a little whiff of oaky smoke, lingerings of orange oil.

Palate: Citrus remains on the palate, now with nutty hints of marzipan and cherry.

Finish: Dry smoke again, softened by buttery vanilla.

Deanston 25 Year Old 1996 (cask 18697) - Old Malt Cask (Hunter Laing) Reviews

A youthful tasting 25 year old

Reminded me a lot of a tasting i did on a range of new young whiskies from new distilleries recently (Bimber American oak/Kingsbarns/Glasgow distillery) hard to believe this has spent 25 years in cask, guess it is a much used refill? Lots of fresh vanillin oak and custard powder along with orange fondant. A sort of liquid Mr kipling french fancy which is nice enough but not sure i would pay £150 for this when you can pick up any of the trio above for much less and delivers much the same flavour profile.
