Craigellachie 13 Year Old Bottling Note

One of the three official Craigellachie bottlings released in 2014, their 13 year old single malt Scotch whisky handsomely shows off the bold, robust character of the distillery's output. Oodles of dynamic fruit notes with a distinctive current of smoke running through the middle. Single malt Craigellachie hasn't been seen much outside of indie bottlings recently, so this is an ace return to our glasses from the distillery!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Apple orchards in bloom, slightly meaty, burnt popcorn, treacle tart.

Palate: Oily malt arrives first, followed by BBQ pineapple and summer berries. Pine nuts and almonds.

Finish: A very soft hint of sulphur hides behind biscuit and apple notes.

Craigellachie 13 Year Old Reviews

Meaty & fruity

Here in the States it runs about 60$ and has started showing up even in the mom&pop liquor stores. On my third bottle now since it came out a few years back. No chill filtering or caramel color. Hard fruits, pears, apples on the nose, heavy meaty mouthfeel. The dreaded adjective "Smooth" and not excessively complex, a unique alternative to sherried drams and the peaty, smoky Islays. Nice, rather dry medium length finish. Have passed it around ("Here, try THIS...") with friends...one or two "Meh, it's alrights" but mostly positive feedback. I have seen a few more good reviews around recently, and hoping this a good sign that this is establishing a bit of a cult following. I would like it popular enough to remain easily available without it suffering the "Lagavulin effect" where the price increases 50 percent (the Offerman tax? lol!) overnight. Have a pretty deep, long term collection of favorite malts, and Craigellachie 13 offers a unique presence in the lineup. I like the label design as well, it does seem to fit the profile of an imagined, old-fashioned dram!

Succulent

I'm impressed by this one. Oily, buttery texture. Definitely has a pineapple after taste. Sweet and sultry.

Give it a chance

Certainly a complex malt that needs time to show its character. Lovely oily texture with hints of nuts and spearmint, Unusual but delicious

Wow! Beautiful, complex, smooth, lush sweet pineapple with a nutty finish.

Pleasant enjoyablevSpeysider, easy on the palate and wallet

Very surprised to see it listed of part of a "robust, bold" example of this distillery's output which I admit is unfamiliar to me. I found my first taste to be very enjoyable, but quite subtle with an unexpected touch of sweetness, and I certainly agree that there are lovely fruity notes that probably account for it. Interestingly enough, my wife, who enjoys The Dalwhinnie, thought it delicious.
All in all a find malt. And good value.
Cheers!

For what it is, its enjoyable.

Nose: Citrus, toffee, hints of wood and some banana.

Palate: Spicy wood dominates a very light and balanced thin sherry palate.

After: Echoed coffee but otherwise fades quickly.

Good mid range single Scotch.

Tidy drop, but I’m fcked how The Master of Malt can find 12, yes 12, different flavours in this drop. Take ya hands off it🤪

Burnt matchsticks 😄

Don’t like it...
Very heavy and sulphuric on the palate..
On the nose it’s wonderful...
Not my cup of whisky.

Real unfiltered old-time 1891 whisky

I'm 69. Budget 15 year taster.

When I was flush, A'Bunadh was king.

Read a bunch of reviews about this whisky and bought two, delivered this afternoon. So happy.

Decided to leave a rare comment for someone like me looking for a righteous, old-world oily, robust, huge flavor whisky for around 60 bucks, on-line, in the U.S.

Oily. Muscular. Warm delicious flavors. 92 proof wonderful heat.

Not filtered. Original, same as it was in 1891.

I use the 'tongue spoon' style of tasting.
I cup my tongue. Take a sip.
Move my head around a little-taste the flavors.
Then, soft inhale into my throat- a nice warm rush.
Finally, swish around my mouth. Subdued explosion.
Fantastic.

Before I sat down to write this, I pulled the pin and ordered two more bottles.

Time to go back to the living room for another sip.
