Compass Box 3yo Deluxe Bottling Note

A limited edition blended malt from the esteemed Compass Box, made with three different malt whiskies. The youngest whisky in this expression is 3 years old (the only age they are allowed to disclose is the youngest component - their Campaign for Scotch Whisky Transparency calls for amends to this), though it makes up less than 1% of the entire blend, with 90% being made up of whisky from the same distillery of "an unstated but considerably older age", and 9% peaty malt whisky distilled on the Isle of Skye.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Producer's Tasting Note:
The rich vanilla notes, waxiness and decadent baked orchard fruit notes from the larger parcel of Highland malt whisky provide a beautiful platform on top of which the brooding qualities of the peaty malt whisky and the clean, bright character of the three year-old parcel are able to shine.

Compass Box 3 Year Old Deluxe Reviews

Delicious

I really enjoyed this one and it was quite tasty. I had a couple glasses of it. The only thing I can't understand is that I've drank this on three different occasions now and each time I wake up with my left eye sore and then my eyelid gets swollen for a couple days.

Superb

I thought I'd be in agreement with 'Not worth it' below, but having tried it I have to rank it as the best Compass Box I've tried for some time. Glaser and the team have unearthed a magnificent batch of Clynelish hogsheads and found the perfect combination with a complex smoky Talisker. Sumptuously mature on the nose, generous and pretty unique on the palate. I hate to say it but you have to pay a lot more to find flavours like this elsewhere in the world of Scotch.

Not worth it

Not bad, but you can get superb Compass Box whiskies for half or even quarter the price.

Brilliant!

Superb, even at the asking price. The 3-year-old age statement is worth a hearty chuckle as the lion's share of the contents are many times older than that...but that's the point.

Are Compass Box turning into BrewDog?

Not actually tried this expression but I'm becoming slightly concerned that a respectable blending company (whose bottlings I've always enjoyed) are going all hipster, slightly aggressive and 'f*** the system-y'.

Quite good, but wildly overpriced

Compass Box make some of my favourite whiskies in the world, but there have been one or two at the absolute top end of their price range which I don't believe matched the outlay - and this is one of them. This is a nice dram - tasty, with good spice and a pleasant though not overpowering richness. And as a marketing piece - given their wonderful and much-needed transparency campaign - it is genius.

However, at £200/bottle, it is simply far too expensive. When you think that you can buy both a Flaming Heart 15th anniversary AND a Spice Tree Extravaganza (both markedly superior in my opinion) for the same price, it really does put it into perspective.

Delicious

Simply divine!

Re: "Disgraceful pricing"

I think you've missed the point here...

Good, but not £200 good.

Nose: Very waxy, candle wax, lovely fruit, threads of smoke, some black pepper.

Taste: Soft, black pepper, candle wax, very waxy actually, some fruit, more spice, some smoke.

Finish: Medium/Long. Waxy, spicy and tropical.

83/100

The whole point of this is that less than 1% is 3 years old, the rest is over x6 of that. Email Compass Box for more.

Disgraceful pricing

£184 for a 3yo blend?? You must be joking.
