Togouchi Premium Bottling Note

Togouchi is a blended Japanese whisky from the producers Chugoku Jozo, who mature their whisky in a tunnel rather than a warehouse. The name comes from where the tunnel is located, in the town of Togouchi, which merged with two other towns to create a larger town called Akiota. This is their no-age-statement expression, the Togouchi Premium Blended Japanese Whisky.

Togouchi Premium Blended Japanese Whisky Reviews

A nice whiskey I could drink all night

I got a really nice vanilla aroma with a spiced taste on the pallet, I have to say I got a sample from a friend who got a bottle from here but I will be buying a bottle also

11th March 2020

This one of the best Japanese whisky I tasted in awhile. Love the fragrant scent and the spicy jalapeño finish at the end. Hint of vanilla with touch of chocolate and honey. Highly recommended! Quality beyond quality.

20th October 2019

Light, fragrant and worth a try.

Appearance: pale gold, low viscosity against the side of the glass.
Nose: spirit, nutmeg, lightly spiced, fragrant
Initial taste: liquorice, sweet, smooth
Aftertaste: spirit, cereal, mild

This is a different whisky experience and does not fall into any classification of Scotch I am familiar with. There is certainly a lightness and subtlety beyond the initial liquorice hit.

If one is used to the heavily peated or sherried whiskies, Togouchi Premium is probably not for you. If approached with an open mind, it is worth a go. I enjoyed it and for a light variety of whisky, it offers more than some Scotches I could mention

13th October 2018

Received it as gift. Would not buy it for myself.

Light with a strong hint of grain alcohol.

I would have to agree with the negative comments, I have a wide and accommodating approach to whiskey but this is truly awful. As one of the reviewers said, it is more like vodka.

Enjoy the spicy finish. Amazing product!!

Love the spicy finish. Really good

15th June 2018

Not as bad as other reviews suggest

Not as good as some Scotch whiskies of the same price, but still good I thought. Sweet mushroom. Very well balanced.

14th June 2018

Sin duda alguna muy recomendable

Excelentes aromas color dorado y con un buen volumen de alcohol

19th April 2018

Nothing special about it.

For the price i expected it to be solid but it was just a dissapointment in every aspect.
On the nose it has nothing except maybe a little rice.

In mouth its just like moonshine no flavors at. With a little water it looses the tiniest thing it has and becomes just water.
Aftertaste is just dissgusting also nothing to it. After finishing the bottle it KINDA gets a little better just because i think you get used to it a little bit but it still develops no character.

Sad life

A but of a clarification

I wasn't really impressed by the whisky itself but I'd like to clear one thing up:

>This is not real Japanese whisky, with a connection to China. Clear by the label and the taste.

This whisky is indeed made by "Chugoku Jouzo" but in this case, "Chugoku" does not mean China. Yes, it's the same kanji but Chugoku is also a name for a region in Japan that includes places like Hiroshima and Okayama. The company that made (or perhaps more accurately, aged) this whisky is located in Hiroshima so hence the name, Chugoku Jouzo. It might be a stretch to call this "Japanese" whisky but it certainly isn't Chinese.

No. Just no.

Received as part of the 2017 MM Advent Calender. Not good. Really the worst of the bunch — but good to compare against.

25th December 2017

Not real Japanese whisky.

This is not real Japanese whisky, with a connection to China. Clear by the label and the taste.

11th December 2017

This is Vodka, not whiskey

It tastes just like vodka. It's a very smooth vodka, but this doesnt taste like whiskey, not my cup of tea for sipping

19th October 2017

Not whisky

I think this is not whisky, smells pure alcoholand taste like nothing...forget about malt or barrels...

23rd September 2017

Rip off !

Pathetic and totally disappointing. No flavour , no depth or soul. Felt totally cheated ; paying a premium when this one doesn't seem to have been matured at all 🙃😑👎🏼

24th June 2017

A wonderful present.

23rd June 2017

Smooth, sweet, mushroomy but with short lived

This is a subtle whisky which partly explains the mixed ratings, as subtlety is by its very nature easy to miss. I personally thought it is a superb blending of complex umami elements with sweetness and saltiness. It is smooth and short lived, but beautifully balanced and quite complex if you taste it closely. The flavour is focussed on the meaty mushroomy flavours which combine so interestingly with the sweetness and reminded me of a sugary mushroom dish I once had at a Michelin starred French restaurant. Recommended if you find other affordable Japanese whiskies too peppery.

Whisky to love

Exclusive, different, subtle, mild, smooth but rich.

1st May 2017

Not a real Japanese whisky

As far as I know it is not an authentic Japanese whisky, the brewery has no single distill pot, it imports cheap scotch whisky in bulk and reserve in their own cask and bottle it and sell back to Europe or other markets. The thing is why we pay extra costs for a fake Japanese whisky. There is more and more this type of Japanese whiskies while Japanese whisky is still booming. An other brand is called Kurayoshi, even worse.

pas mauvais... mais peu d'intérêt / not bad... but nor very interesting

Je suis assez déçu par ce whisky, le nez est très léger, la bouche est certes douce, mais sans goût réel, la finale est très courte, très portée sur l'alcool. Il n'est pas mauvais en soi, mais selon moi sens grand intérêt.

I'm a little disappointed. The nose is very light, the mouth is smooth but not really tasty, and the final is very short. Not a bad whisky, but to me, not really interesting.

24th January 2017

Typical Japanese style

I think the subtly typifies the Japanese palate. Everything about this whisky is subtle. It has a light colour, subtle flavors and a quick finish.

I know the whiskies in the blend are Scottish and Canadian but the blending is definitely Japanese.

2nd December 2016

Different and Individual

So elusive compared to other japanese blends, yet a pungent statment of individuality and character in production provenance.

Big top notes of candied apple, give mouth juice and awakening.

The length is short, forcing assertion in detection like a quick fire quiz question.

Challenge the norm, and make your self realise something different, or and add a bottle that states its own section within japanese blends within your collection.

Excellent! Very smooth

Like drinking warm honey.

Un gout subtile, pour ceux qui ont un palais délicat, je suis amateur de Whisky qui ne déchire pas mais qui ont du gout

27th May 2015
