Chivas Regal 12 Bottling Note

Chivas Regal is a world-famous Scotch blend which was first made in the early 20th century by Chivas Brothers. The company can trace its roots back to 1801, with the opening of a grocers at Number 13 King Street, Aberdeen. Selling luxury food, coffee and spices, it wasn't until half a century later that the company started to make whisky, and then not until post-US Prohibition that Chivas Regal 12 Year Old was first officially released. F. Paul Pacult described Chivas Regal 12 as "the blend for grown-ups", awarding it an impressive 9 out of 10. It's a very apt statement - this is a very refined blended whisky, with herbs, honey and fruit leaping forth on the palate. Regularly lauded by the critics, this is a superb blend in its price category, representing great value for money.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: A creamy, aromatic melange of vanilla custard, hints of aniseed, lemon curd and butter toffee. Wood shavings and dried banana chips develop with just a hint of cassis.

Palate: More of those banana chips showing through on the palate, this time there's a creamy hit of barley malt too, pepped up with a little allspice. Notes of ground walnut and caramel.

Finish: Light spice and black pepper on the tail. Lingering notes of cereal sweetness.

Overall: A spicy, beautifully balanced blend. Lots going on here.

Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Reviews

Good buy if you don’t like peaty

Well worth the money. Won of the best blends.

Not very smooth

Not very smooth. Heavy on the ethanol! I can taste butterscotch and caramel. Quite spicy on the finish. Just too rough for my liking.

quick bodge

addendum: If you have some CR 12 to get rid of, I have found that adding it to Ballantine's "Finest" 30/70 improves both. But I strongly suggest that you buy Grant's instead.

Bad, cheap whisky.

I do not believe that the many gushing reviews are legitimate. This is grain whisky with a pitifully small amount of single malt. And it's not even decent grain whisky. Just... don't waste your time.

My first scotch

Pleasant but somewhat undefinable flavour. Is it toffee or orange? No peat in this. Somewhat sweet but not overly so. Perhaps overpriced but it does have some complexity to it. I started my journey with this and might come back to it one day.
I've seen comparison videos where in a blind tasting they had trouble distinguishing it from Dewar's 12 and JWB, but this is totally different than Black Label (which I really liked). Their only similarity is that they are both premium blends.

Paint stripper

Burns horribly all the way down. Simply ghastly. Enough to make one teetotal.

Smooth and delicious

In my opinion the best blended whisky I have ever tasted. If anyone asks I will always recommend it. Obviously some people may be more of a connoisseur than me but I stick with my views. Very smooth.

Great Blended Whisky...Perfect for Beginners

I'm very new to drinking whisky and this was highly recommended by many online and off. I found it sweet but a little harsh at first with a bit of a burn but after it settled with a touch of water I found it very nice. I then added a little single malt from a speyside whiskey I had left and wow... It brought it on to a whole new level... I will buy it again... Recommended.
