Caol Ila - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

Boutique-y Caol Ila #1 Bottling Note

Batch 1 of That Boutique-y Whisky Company's Caol Ila Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been launched to mark the team's trip to Fèis Ìle 2013! If you catch them while they're out there, they may even offer you a dram...

The view from the Caol Ila still house across to the Paps of Jura is perhaps one of the greatest in Scotland - but what's this? - Prince Vultan from a certain epic 1980s movie is charging across the water with Jura's famed deer population in tow! Quick, protect the peated stock!

This is a limited release of 732 numbered bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts, blends and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Classic Caol Ila on the nose, harbour ropes, seaweed and a hint of linseed. Oily with malt, brine and butter.

Palate: A slight departure from the nose, it puts us in mind of sitting on a deck out at sea with black pepper and hints of driftwood too. The mouthfeel is slightly oily without being too viscous and there is a little late nuttiness to savour.

Finish: Gentle oak and open ocean, slightly drying.

Overall: We had to chain our Content Writer to his desk until he came up with Tasting Notes other than "Mmmmmm..." (he's rather partial to a tasty Caol Ila).

Caol Ila - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) Reviews

Yes, no need to add water to this one.

Only sampled the 3cl taste from my Staff Favorites tasting set that my sweetheart surprised me with for Christmas, and found the Batch 1 delightfully complex, bright and citrusy for a peaty Islay--and wasn't surprised to learn that Blue Label incorporates Caol Ila in their blend. Highly recommended--will definitely be seeking out more of this one. And as reviewer above points out--adding water actually detracts from the richness--enjoy this one straight.

Sitting in comfy chair on Islay with friends, enjoying Festival, there's no better place on earth to savour this unique spirit especially being one of the first to experience it.
Smoky on the nose, slightly spicy and oily on the palate, salty and peppery with typical Caol Ila smokiness all the way through. Wouldn't recommend adding water, as it seems to lose some of it's depth.
The fact that I won this bottle in Master of Malt Treasure Hunt competition makes it taste even better:-)
