Caol Ila 34 Year Old 1981 - Cask Strength (Gordon & MacPhail)

Caol Ila 34yo 1981 Bottling Note

Islay - home to various gorgeous coastal views, picturesque villages and incredible distilleries, like the fantastic Caol Ila! This is a 34 year old Caol Ila, distilled in 1981 and matured in a refill American hogshead cask until 2016, when Gordon & MacPhail bottled it for their Cask Strength series.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Cinder toffee, BBQ grilled lemon, burnt ends.

Palate: Still enjoyably meaty and coastal, with a kick of red chilli balanced by dark chocolate.

Finish: A whisper of charcoal and candied peanuts.

Caol Ila 34 Year Old 1981 - Cask Strength (Gordon & MacPhail) Reviews

One of the best whiskies I've ever had in any price bracket.

I've just finished off a bottle of 1975 unfiltered cask strength (61.3%) single malt Caol Ila bottled in 1997 under the Rare Malts label. Joy in a bottle, best mixed 1 to 2 parts water which brings out a sweet bouquet of highland aromas and tastes. Long but not-over smoked finish.
It's a shame there's no second bottle, but the Gordon & MacPhail looks the next closest. There is one major problem - SOLD OUT!
Anyone know of anything else that's available?
