Caol Ila 1982 BBR Bottling Note

A single cask Caol Ila, bottled by the world-famous London wine merchants, Berry Brothers and Rudd. This was distilled in 1982 and aged in cask 6510 for 29 years before bottling in 2011, un-chillfiltered and at natural cask strength. Great stuff…

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Oily and coastal with notes of butterscotch, iodine, sea spray and gentle peat smoke, a touch of caramel, cold ashes and maybe a hint of paraffin.

Palate: Woody and spiced, lapsang souchong, grapeseed oil, cereals, grist, salt on a lemon wedge, olive oil and black pepper. Gentle wood smoke and malt.

Finish: Long and tangy with crisp, dry fruits and woodsmoke.

Caol Ila 1982 (Berry Bros. & Rudd) Reviews

Fruit bomb

Lots of peat smoke on the nose. Unexpectedly tangy flavour - as though it's been infused with lime. Smoke, again. With a little water, plum and pear skin aroma. The flavour is unlike any whisky I've tried - richly fruity, with a little caramel and some bitterness. Later, saltiness. Really amazing - a new dimension.
