Herb and Lime Salsa 1990 Bottling Note

This is a 1990 vintage Bunnahabhain, aged in a hogshead until 2017, when it was bottled at 46% ABV with an outturn of 320 bottles. When it comes to single cask releases from Wemyss Malts, you can expect the name to be a reference to the flavour profile. This edition is no different.

Now, I know you're thinking 'Herb and Lime Salsa' sounds more like the character of a savoury margarita, or a packet of Doritos. But, coming from the outstanding Bunnahabhain Distillery, you know that this a single malt Scotch whisky that has the potential to combine an experimental, truly unique flavour; without comprising the integrity of the spirit.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Herbaceous to begin, with touches of mint, oregano and flat-leaf parsley. There's a coastal saltiness, and a measured dose of lime cordial. Sweet notes of brown sugar and toasted barley linger below.

Palate: There's an array of flavour, bold fresh lime juice leads, with smoked anchovy salt and the savoury spice of jalapeño brine present. Smouldering oak and a touch of vanilla rise around a mineral-y smoke. Basil leaves and a pinch of mint are beautifully poised throughout, and there's a sweet underlay of agave nectar.

Finish: Herbal and mellow, with sweet, toasty malt.
