Port Charlotte 10yo Bottling Note

Introduced as the flagship Port Charlotte expression produced by Bruichladdich in 2018, this 10 year old single malt from the Isle of Islay is a lip-smackingly smoky number indeed. It's peated to 40ppm, and drawn from a combination of first-fill American whiskey casks, second-fill American whiskey casks and second-fill French wine casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Salted caramel brownie, flamed orange peel, a hearty whack of seaweed.

Palate: Oak-y smoke and salty sea air, paired with sweeter notes of Custard Cream biscuits and white grape.

Finish: Ginger snaps, rye toast, drying peat smokiness.

Port Charlotte 10 Year Old Reviews

Close But No Cigar

This is a nice Islay example, but quite light on smoke and salt compared to others. This is a great option for those who want to try something smokey without going too bold, but a disappointing option for those with a taste for peat-monsters.

Has Peat smoke & bonfire in abundence but thats it other than a slight vanilla custard thing going on, Kinda like an Ardbeg with no sea spray or griled lemon which it way better on my opinion & cheaper too. What it has it does well but it's very linier & 1 dimensional.

I have loved all the Port Charlottes, especially PC6, but 10 was so disappointing, Bland, not really Islay whisky. That PC10 has been on sale for several years now suggests that it’s poor — the earlier PCs sold out within a year, while this stuff is still cluttering supermarket shelves.

My first 5 star whisky

This just has everything to like about it. Heavy beautiful bonfire smell and taste with just excellent undertones with none of the harsh alcohol or medicinal scents.
All round great peaty whisky. Just buy it.

Great, to buy two. Sea salt and a peat that wraps. To enjoy.

Terrific, flavoursome, please Sir I want some more

Lovely whisky, subtle on the peat but none the worse for it.

Quite good

While this is a superb whisky in its own right, the words 'heavily peated islay single malt' in big letters on the bottle lead you to expect more... Islay peat! Judged against the other big islays, the strength of flavour in this is a bit disappointing. This is quite subtle for an Islay.

You'll have to beat me to it

the complexity of this whisky is remarkable! starts with intense peat and sea salt on the beach at low tide, then moves to caramel before darkening to treacle on it's way to the lightly singed citrus and vanilla notes at the end, all while having a sweet lassie fanning cool smoke into your nostrils.

one dram demands a second!

Buy two!

I'm normally a real fan of a Jura, with the rare Islay I've tried not really hitting the mark. However, this is an absolute belter!
The smoke is strong but the complexity that goes with it works beautifully.
It just draws you in and gets better and better.

Marvellous tasting whisky! Floral, vanilla, sweet and very smokey but not a chimney smoke that overpowers. A beautifully complex whisky with many layers. By far my favourite.
