Bruichladdich 8yo Laddie

An 8 year old single malt from Islay's Bruichladdich distillery, originally released for the Travel Retail Market. The Laddie Eight was created by Head Distiller Adam Hannett, with an aim to capturing the fantastic floral notes along with Bruichladdich's coastal elements.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Thyme honey, citrus blossom and a hint of brioche.

Palate More citrus, though now juicy and sweet. Poppy seed and sea salt crackers, a touch of caramel.

Finish Quite grassy and herbal on the finish.

This was a real surprise. I’ve yet to come across a Bruichladdich that I didn’t like… love, and Laddie 8 is no exception. Extremely complex. I get the honey and a bit of pear, peach on the nose. Palate: Mango? Definitely citrus, very light aniseed on the back, more peach tailing off to a long, grassy, slightly acrid end. Loverly <3

Disclaimer: that I'm no expert.
I'm a strong fan of Islay whiskies for their peat, and so I thought it'd be great to try something unpeated from Islay.

My first glass is taken with 2 small ice cubes to hydrate and slightly cool the temperature. I'm from a warm country, so I'd hoped to bring it down to around the high teens/low 20s in degrees Celsius.

Oh how well it is done, surprising me totally.

I was not expecting how sweet/juicy the early taste is, and how 'clear' it is. I like Highland Spring Water for its clarity, and the Laddie Eight is really enjoyable as well in the same vein for me.

Midway through the tasting it got salty and apple-y for me. Salty enough that I wasn't sure if I wanted a salty/savory snack with my drink.

Finish goes on for a long time, still producing clear, earthy notes for me 5 minutes after a last drink.

I feel like I spent my money on a good whiskey.
