Bowmore 15 Year Old - Golden & Elegant 1L

Bowmore 15 Year Old G&E Bottling Note

One of a trio of bottlings originally released for the Travel Retail market by Bowmore in 2017. The 15 Year Old expression matures in first-fill bourbon casks, resulting in generous bundles of vanilla-y goodness alongside the familiar peaty notes.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh vanilla pods and salted caramel. Hints of lemon and orange peel.

Palate: A touch of smoked kipper as it opens, leading to seaside fudge and honey'd barley.

Finish: Peat smoke, another burst of citrus.

I love this one, if you like bourbon cask whiskey this is one you should try=)

Reminds me of the Indonesian haze. Tastes of smoke and not much else. Not something I'd recommend.

Not the best

I have this one on my islay shelf. A 15 yo which sounded like a good addition to the Caol Isla, Lagavulin, Ardbeg and even Laphroaig posse, Its an imposter. Tastes like a burnt sh*t sugar butty in comparison. Each to their own.

Not the typical Islay malt

Very nice Islay malt. Don’t expect the typical smoky peatbomb, but a well balanced masterpiece of fruit, zest, smoke, woodspice (it’s first fill after all) and cinammon/liquorice. On the nose it’s smoky honey combined with a slightly bitter woodsap. aftertaste/finish is long and dominated by the fresh oakwood. Also very dry and a little medicinal.

On the nose is the expected peat, but with some mint and a touch of leather.
The palate is bright with peat, cloves and bitter-herbal notes.
The finish is medium length with that leather again, mineral peat notes, ash and some lemon zest.

Nice change of pace for Bowmore to offer something less sweet, without as much sherry cask influence. From the palate, this must be mostly ex-burbon casks. A great quality value for the price, especially for a liter bottle.

Highly recommended! <3

Worth every penny, money very well spent. 40 years malt drinker.

I bought this one on a cruise visiting Heligowland a German island, having been a great fan of all Islay whiskys this is with out doubt one of the very best ,it is just fabulous not anything i could possibly fault about it .Very well done Bowmore.

Its a got a bit of everything

I've really let this bottle breathe for a while now, and comparing it against other whiskeys. It has a bit of everything, from honey to smoke and citrus, woody tastes and goes well with a dash of herbal bitters/dribble of water. Not the most stunning of Islay whiskeys, nor is it average - in this volume as well you get different variations of character as you polish it off. Great to share amongst friends for an occaision i would think. Cheers

A real let down

On of the least attractive Bowmores I have ever tasted.
The 15YO Darkest was excellent as was the 15YO Mariner.
This is not up to their standard

Nice balance of smoke and tropical fruits, good value for the money (note that it's 1L). The 18yo travel retail is even better, but this is also solid.
