Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Salted pretzels, fruitcake and a pinch of cinnamon.

Palate: Flamed orange peel, sea salt, Cadbury Bournville.

Finish: Spiced rum warmth, with layers of toasted malt.

Bowmore 10 Year Old - Dark & Intense 1L Reviews

Have faith!

I have had a loss of faith ; and then a recovery of faith.
A kind friend ( non-whisky drinker) gave me a bottle of Bowmore 10 year old. It was terrible, for all the reasons previous postings have set out. I have such fond memories of Bowmore whiskies in the past, including visits to the distillery, that I just could not believe that this whisky emanated from Bowmore.
Luckily, I had a bottle of Bowmore 12 year old with two inches of spirit remaining. I immediately sampled this to see if it was me or the Bowmore 10 was at fault in this matter. Reader - it was the 10 year old that was lacking.
The 12 year old was gorgeous. The 10 year old is just a momentary fall from grace by Bowmore. Vivat Bowmore!

Only as a mixer

Aroma and taste is very unpleasant. Gasoline, plastic, foil. Undrinkable.

Delicious! Poured over ice. I’m not keen on peaty whiskies. This salty, sweet whiskey is delicious. Doesn’t warrant the bad reviews.

15th June 2020

Perfect sweet and smokey taste.

I read the bad reviews and there is a perfect explanation. Taste is always personal. If you love smokey Scottish Islay whiskies, this one won't let you down. A perfect balance of sweet and a strong pepper / smokey taste. One of my favourite whiskies, pure flavour. Absolutely recommended.

Perfect with just a little water.

I dont agree to the bad review, I really enjoy this Bowmore.

excellent drop on the rocks.

love it excellent drop on the rocks .

I bought this on a whim coming back from Portugal. I really struggled with this on the nose and the palate. As someone said before me it tastes like rubber and I would add pine chemical. I tried 2 drams neat and one final one with a bit of water. I just can't drink it.

14th December 2019

Just awful rubber taste and petrochemical aftertaste. Never thought Bowmore may turn such a disappointment.

3rd November 2019

Not bad

In the words of another reviewer, “Good weekday Scotch”. The color seems artificial, but with a little water it is not bad. Low end of the smokey spectrum. A little salty, not too briney. $50 where I bought it. Wouldn’t pay more than that.

20th October 2019

I don't agree with the bad reviews.

This is not at all bad for the price. Maybe the ones who have rated 1 star are expecting a Lagavulin 16?

27th August 2019

Good stuff

Really can't understand the bad reviews, this is better than the 12yo bowmore

Good whiskey for Money

My favorite whiskey is lagavulin 16.

Worst whisky ever tasted, don't waste your money...nil stars

I'm love my whisky so, when I tip a full glass down the kitchen sink, trust me, it's bad!!! Can't get the taste out of my mouth😣🤢. Am keeping the rest of the bottle, only to give to visitors we want to see the back end of in a hurry😂

11th July 2019

A delicious surprise

Bought this at the airport to offer to friends at my destination. I hadn’t tried it before but was attracted by the ageing in sherry casks and, having sampled it, was not disappointed. Delicious, unctuous and moreish 😊.

It won't make you go blind

I'm back. Recently I'd posted the 'I want my money back review'. I did end up mixing it with a half bottle of Dewer's which slightly took the edge off.

The reason I'm posting again is that I'd just opened the second bottle of this fraud-in-a-bottle, I was hoping it was just a bad bottle - but the second is equally toxic. There is something distinctly horribly unpleasant in this spirit.

What angers me is while JW Black is entirely pedestrian, it is consistent - it was on sale. In the end, should have just grabbed the Maker's Mark. Can never go wrong with American bourbon.

Expensive mistake with not the slightest upside other than it being 40 proof spirits. Then again, so is Stag out if India which is precisely what this beverage reminds me of, cheap Indian subcontinent spirit.

It's ok if you let it sit

When I first opened the bottle, it was truly awful. took like 4 drams over 2 weeks time to look if it gets better, but it didn't. I left the bottle in my closet to sit for about 4-5 months and then returned to it, now it it much better than before.
Nose: Sherry, peat, smoked ham, smoked herring, sweet floral note binding everything together.
Palate: Salty seawater, seaweed, peat, walnuts, dried orange peel, bittersweet floral note.
Finish: Peaty smoke, salty mineral water, smoked herring, roses, oily mouthfeel, pecan, cashew, sweet floral note.

it is decent but kind of lackluster. 40% abv and the huge amount of caramel coloring in this doesn't do it favor. I guess it can be successfully used in blends but tastewise - it is hit or miss. The initial impressions were probably 1/5 stars, after - about 3,5 so lets meet in the middle because it should be drinkable right away.

Money down the drain

Don’t waste your money on this whiskey. Tastes very artificial. Nothing smoky about this one. Think am going to start using it in cocktails. Very disappointed

Bowmore - I want my money back

Bought not one but two bottles of this swill 2/99nzd. I'm so disappointed. It has an absolutely nasty taste and after taste. The after taste... it's something I've tasted before but can't nail it down. Almost petrochemicalish. Never buy another bottle of Bowmore again. Ghastly.

I'd trade both bottles right now for standard bog Dewer's in a flash.

I'm now mixing a ten year Scotch with soda water, before I'm done ill be mixing it with Coke.

Dark - hidden in the janitors closest
Intense - Intensely undrinkable

Sweet and smokey I’m perfect balance.

Delicious whiskey, smooth and enjoyable from the very first sip. Well balanced blend of sweet and smokey. Amazing colour, will definitely be picking up another bottle.

13th April 2019

Worth trying under 50$ price

I don't understand why people are rating it bad. A class Islay malt in a budget range . Not too smoky ,a perfectly balanced whisky .

16th January 2019

Amazing whisky! Worth trying for Islay lovers. Budget range is also great

16th January 2019

Not for me. I noticed almost no presence of peat smoke, rather nondescript, general purpose single malt. If the peat flavour blew you away, seek professional help.

Better than I expected, but I wont be buying any more.

9th December 2018

Dark & Intense? More like Bland & Artificial.

Nasty colour, immediately gives away the E150. The fact that they had to put "Dark & intense"on the bottle says something about the drink - it is definitely not dark and not intense without the added enhancers.

Nose: Slightly smoky and peaty, sweet caramel, orange & cloves, fresh alcohol. You really have to dig out the aromas, adding water and letting it sit helps a lot. 3/5
Taste: Tastes like artificial sweeteners - not good and definitely not pleasant. Burnt caramel, bitter aftertaste, hints of wormwood, just a SMALL hint of walnut. Extremely overpowering young spirit taste throughout. And what a dissapointment - no smoke or peat whatsoever! it's from Islay and is being marketed as smokey... 1/5
Finish: Fast finish, oily mouthfeel, not pleasant artificial sweetener lingering in the background. 1/5

Summary: Disappointment. It's young, bland, generic and artificial tasting. There are far better whiskeys out there, don't waste your time on this.

15th November 2018

Small taste

Not bad but nothing special. No long.

4th October 2018

Ok but not the best

Bought a bottle in tenerife (litre) €28 very good whisky, but not as good as bowmore surf

16th September 2018

Always liked Bowmore, no exception here. I would say it's how the company describes it. If you favor Islay scotch you will like it.

9th September 2018

weird whisky

Very intense caramel flavor, can not tell what weird taste is about this looks-tasty whisky, so regret to get this rubbish whisky.

15th July 2018

Good value for money which gives you a gentle introduction to the famous ISLAY malts.

Bought 2 bottles at Airport which gave a further discount (over£75) great value.
Nose - you can sense the influence of the sherry cask with tinges of marmalade and raisins.
Palate - you are immediately hit by the spicy flavours of predominantly orange and bitter chocolate with further spicy notes tingling on the front of the tounge.
Finish - this lingers in the mouth and reminds you of the provenance of an ISLAY whisky.

30th January 2018

A nice dram

The sherry oak taste is heavy on this one. Starts off with a nice peat smoke, then fruity, flamed orange peel and cinnamon. The smoke comes back at the end with a long aftertaste of vanilla and fruits.

29th January 2018

I had Bowmore 10 Year last night. Smoky taste was amazing.
