A cask strength release from the Islay distillery, Bowmore. This 'Claret' finish whisky has been matured for 16 years, with a finish in a Bordeaux Wine Cask - the label is emblazoned, accordingly, with a bunch of grapes.
This bottle was part of a private collection.

Nose: Aromatic, powerful. There is strong evidence of the cask finish, sumptuous claret notes, with rich wood and good texture yet everything coexists nicely as the peat smoke shines with intensity, yet poise.
Palate: Spicy smoke and peat with real power, as with a lot of wine finishes it is all in the mouth feel. Thick oiliness, supple fruit, oaked dryness, perhaps, not quite pungent enough in respect to the power of the peat.
Finish: Notes of brewing coffee and oaked fruit with a little winy sweetness, followed by a resurgence of smoke.

This is one of the best liquids I have ever tried. Sweet, smoky, full punch. So good. If you find it. Buy it

Superb. It is a gold.

It's possible I got a bottle from a bad cask/batch, but the sulphur was so overpowering it punched me in the face when I had the first dram. Heavy, heavy, heavy matchsticks and gunpowder. I've found other reviews on the Internet that report the same thing. However, under the sulphur I can tell it's a very good whisky and there are many bottles without sulphur influence out there, so good luck!

Has everything you want in a single malt.. but more. Delivers complexity that few whisky malts can achieve. A truly exceptional malt!
