Nose: Marvelous notes of fudge, toffee and crème caramel greet the nose with suggestions of cooked fruit, coffee beans, calves leather and dates. A development of barrel char appears on the scene, entwined in luscious waves of maple and pecan pie, canned peaches, cinnamon and toasted almond. Good grief.
Palate: A sweet, perfect balance of flavours coat the tongue with oily, zinging top notes of racey spices, tangy fruits and a perfume quality. Notes of vanilla, bonfire toffee, maple spice and the crema from a well-made espresso. Notes, too, of dried fruit, cooked baana, raisins, cinnamon buns and hot-buttered toast with manuka honey. Fabulous.
Finish: Excellent length, fading away gracefully on a wave of toffee popcorn, coffee beans and sweet spice.
