A fabulous single malt from Bladnoch Distillery, this 17 year old was originally filled into ex Bourbon barrels, before being re-filled into Californian red wine casks in March 2016 and January 2017. A blend of two vattings, this rich and fruity expression was bottled at 46.7% without any chill-filtration.
Got a 60ml sample from Whiskyloot to try. First time on the nose was quite a harsh fermented wine. Once in the glass from the bottle you get that elegant aroma of fruit with a slight hint of vanilla. First taste was a little on the spicy side, not to much going on but you can feel the cinnamon and taste the fruit. Second time around, you get left with more fruity, sweet and pleasant taste. Very smooth to go down. First finish was slightly spicy with a shortbread feel to it, but once it died down, the fruit explosion took over and it was wonderful. After a few, it just goes down really well, complex in taste, but very enjoyable. Will be hunting for a bottle of this now. Very pleasant indeed.
On first taste, I was not convinced but second, exploded into a fruity sweetness and the wine cask influence certainly starts to come through. Definitely, one for those who love an oaky flavour with a jammy/ marmalade twist. Highly recommend.
