From Benriach's 2020 relaunch of its cracking core range comes The Twelve, a 12-year-old Speyside single malt matured in a trio of casks - namely sherry casks, bourbon casks and Port casks! This maturation has imparted dried fruit notes galore, alongside wafts of good coffee and subtle spices. Very impressive indeed.
Maple syrup on blueberry pancakes, dark chocolate, quince and orange.
Honeyed cereals, cooked apple, chocolate peanuts and soft, almost jammy sultanas.
Mocha, honey, dried fruit and mixed peels.
I buy a bottle of whiskey approx every 2-3 months. I’m definitely an amateur when it comes to tasting notes etc. I like unpeated whiskeys so the description for this one appealed. The taste is alright, fruity and fairly smooth. Certainly better with a bit of water. The downside for me is that it’s the only whiskey that’s given me a sore head the next day, after a single measure.
Slightly sharp but bland, almost flavourless yet with strength. Very strange whisky. Don't usually plump for Speyside - now I know why!
I enjoyed this, a nice gentle taste, easy drinking. Perhaps lacking a little character but very enjoyable
Surprised how good it is.. I've tried Benriach before.. but this particular one is a wow.. rich in flavour, fruity... Bought the second bottle for later... Great value for money...
This is a great dram, not my normal go to whisky , but I believe its up their with the two or three 12 year olds that I go for on a regular basis, and would suggest that it you give it a whirl and enjoy like me.
