An exciting addition to the Benriach collection, with a shiny new unpeated 16-year-old single malt! Matured in a selection of bourbon, sherry, and new oak casks, The Sixteen is based on a revised recipe of its much-adored predecessor, Benriach 16 Year Old. With a generously fruity core, supported by layers of creamy malt and toasted spice, it's a splendid sipper from the Speyside-based distillery.
Apple turnover with dustings of brown sugar, biscuity malt, a hint of apricot, and richly toasted oak.
Silky layers of creamy barley, peach, and apricot lead to sweet notes of apple crumble and cooked plums.
Honeyed nuts arrive towards the finish, with more soft, creamy malt, a touch of oak char, and warming, woody spice.
Interesting mix of sherried fruit, ice-cream cones and vanilla. Creamy texture with a long finish, sweet at first then becomes dry with pleasant woody notes. Different flavours and textures appear at different times. I could still taste this the following morning! Very enjoyable. I missed out the 10yo and 12yo but thinking I will back fill.
