Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Producer's Tasting Note:
Nose: Sweet toasted oak spices interwoven with roasted orchard fruits and dusted with cracked barley. Black vanilla pods, desiccated coconut and a gentle floral note add complexity to the ripe, fruit-laden nose.
Palate: An excellent example of the delicious BenRiach character. Creamy heather honey pours over a medley of apples, pears and apricots. Subtle notes of candied peel and fresh ginger give a delicate warmth and lead to a classic combination of vanilla, toasted coconut and sweet barley in the luscious, velvety finish.

BenRiach Cask Strength - Batch 1 Reviews

Sweet and strong!

I love this one! Mix of sweet vanilla, honey and fruits and a strong kick.

Deliciously sweet and intense, excellent!

Lots of sweet barley sugar and vanilla and some fruit also. I have got through a couple of bottles.

Rich, but lacks refinement

If you like refinement try the cheaper 16yo, but if you like a strong powerful dram you'll need this one. Do add some water though, and I don't say this lightly. It's the first time I felt a whisky needed water, and I've had my share of CS's. It's to rough without it. Maybe a tad too sweet also.

Quite intense and bold at the beginning but sweetness come after taste. Now it's limited.

It's so thick, bold, sweet, vanilla smell. Very strong after taste. Love it!

Needs a drop of H2O & O2; but then strap yourself in!

With a drop of water and 5 minutes to breathe this interesting but unkempt beast becames a roaring monster; still lacking refinement but with soooo much intensity! The sherried fruits really start to come through; this has vanilla, cream, a brandy-esque note and all kinds of soft dark fruit. It is a rich, boozy sherry sauce with an equally boozy brandy Christmas pudding of a whisky... Wonderful stuff if you like your whisky powerful and rich!
