The small batch Kentucky straight bourbon honours the legacy of Meredith Basil Hayden, Sr., who back in the 1790s was known to use more rye in his mashbill than other distillers. (He's also the chap that Old Grand-Dad bourbon is named after.) Crafted by the great Booker Noe in 1992, Basil Hayden bourbon utilises a similar mashbill as its namesake would have used, with high rye but a lighter take on the style.
Cracked black pepper, rye, and oaky spice. Hints of green pepper, lemon peels, and creamy, zesty lemon curd.
Rice Krispies, toasted cereal progressing to popcorn with gentle marshmallow, custard cream sweetness.
Toasty popcorn with lashings of butter!
$33.22 - $74.77
Very good bourbon, with an exceptionally smooth taste when drank on its own. Works well as a mixer for cocktails too, with a deep but not overpowering flavour. Would recommend.
Initially upon tasting, I found this to be smooth albeit too sweet. However, I persevered and after a while more I found it to have a bit more depth than the initial taste which was good. My preference is to have this neat with a single cube of ice as I found that with a mixer it lost the subtleties of the flavour. It's nice and easy drinking so I don't think you'll be disappointed.
A nice bourbon but a little rough on the palette and not as smooth as I'd like. The bottle was well presented and the added embossed metal collar gives it that extra touch of class. It is an acquired taste so may not suit all.
This was the first time I had tried this brand of whiskey and I certainly wasn't disappointed. It was great served over ice and very enjoyable as a longer drink served with coke. It is smooth and warming. I will definitely be buying it again.
Hadn’t tried this brand before and found it very smooth. Really lovely flavour with mixer or without. Would definitely go on to purchase this so very happy to have tried it.
