1792 Small Batch Bourbon Bottling Note

All the way back in 1792, Kentucky officially became a state. Many moons later, 1792 Small Batch bourbon was named after that very same year. As it happens, it's a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. Coincidence? We think not. This expression features mashbill with a generous helping of rye, resulting in a flavour profile packed with herbal spice alongside the classic caramelised sugar, buttered corn and toasted oak notes you find in top-notch bourbons. Great for sipping over a couple ice cubes on a sunny evening.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Buttery warmth up front, followed by black pepper and Sesame Snaps. Soft smoky hints of charred oak and cinnamon.

Palate: Runny caramel, clove, cardamom, corn grilled on a BBQ, peanut brittle and spicy rye.

Finish: A little hint of cinnamon and citrus on the finish.

1792 Small Batch Reviews

A great value for the price.

This is how Bourbon should taste. It's a bit in your face, not particularly smooth, but has so much instant flavour, especially coming from the oak wood it's casked with. It's a throwback bourbon, and I believe that's a good thing. In your face, honest, not particularly complex but that's why one drinks bourbon. It's a bourbon that doesn't apologize for what it is. Well done.

The best bourbon i have tasted yet, very strong and complex but smooths out and delivers a wonderful fulfillment on my tastebuds😋

Confused but smooth

Just an amateur bourbon guy here, adding to my infinity Whiskey bottle & Bourbon bottle, purchased.

To taste: Firstly (sipped as hot coffee) ABV is present, but doesn't kill the flavours ("Lower" scale amateurs may find that the ethanol saturates the taste). Tasting states vanilla & caramel, I can see where they get caramel from as it is sweet & has depth, but I don't catch any vanilla. The lasting taste on the tongue is very good (Maybe the best part as it leaves you wanting to go back). After a drop of water there are enhanced flavours of caramel & the vanilla starts to shine through, so I would suggest my pallet hides it behind the ethanol at the start. there is some flavour I would give as wood but I have no idea what I could state it as.

To nose: A deep smell of cherry cough drops, slight sweetness, but definitely medicine. It does have a corn mash smell (Obviously its Bourbon!!). Small punch of ethanol, but this could be anticipated from the ABV level

Look this is a well rounded drink for £35, but I believe after the bottling & bourbon colour that it leaves something to be desired. a price rise would render it totally confused as I believe its on the ladder looking to climb up but needs something to help it along the way.
1 - Shite
2 - Potential but needs something else
3 - well rounded, sometimes confusing & needs refining
4 - simply memorable, not overplayed & a great lasting taste
5 - Perfection

Meh. Not "bad" but not good.

Only fair. Too corny-tasting & just not what I'd hoped for. Was expecting more spice/bite in a whiskey reputed to have a higher rye content. I'd be willing to try the barrel-strength over this to see if that could change my stance any, but right now, I am NOT committed to ever buying a 2nd bottle of this.

Great tasting!

Best I've ever tasted!!!

Is this single malt/blended malt/blended grain?

21st October 2019

New fav

One of the best bourbon for a lady

6th October 2019

Very smooth

It’s great

3rd August 2019

Very bad!!!

Accustomed to the Scottish whiskys, this one seemed very disappointing.

22nd June 2019

My suggestion for the money go with Russell's reserve or old grandad 114 and leave this one alone!

Nothing special here and for $30 there is much better Russell's reserve and old grandad 114 and 5 or 6 more. Bourbon is getting expensive and for me 30 is expensive. If I'm gonna spend that money I want my money's worth so I won't be spending it on this bourbon again!

6th May 2019

Was expecting a wow ~ got more of a whoa.

If you're spending more than $30...pass. As you're buying small batch I'm guessing the hints, fragrances, tastes, colors, and after taste can all be a little different from year to year. Not sure?

Great low price bourbon

This has all the characteristics you want in a bourbon. A little bite, smooth finish. Not too complex. Won't burn you.

8th February 2019

Good price, give it some air

Totally agree with letting 1792 get some air. First glass is always a bit rough. I've gotten to the point where I open the day of purchase. Great stuff for the $22 I am spending.

Not quality

Has a harshness that a quality bourbon doesn’t produce. There’s cheaper bourbons that provide a much superior taste and flavor. It’s in my option a very disappointing bourbon. I’ve read a lot about rye flavor with this bourbon, but in my option the roughness isn’t from quality rye. I love a good rye, this isn’t picking up flavor from that. I honestly would take the simplistic VOB over this harsh small batch. It just simple is disappointing in my opinion

16th September 2018

Not bad. Expected more initially

Got it on sale for 25.99 from 29.99. I seen it at total wine for 31. Taste like corn whiskey. Not really impressed, but I am coming from very peat Islay single/blended scotch. Taste like jack Daniel’s but with a bite. You can taste the sweet Carmel. I can see it get better as I drink more. In scotch terms, it taste very immature, not mellow at all. The initial taste wasn’t below expectations because I read good things, but as I continue to drink, it gets better

15th September 2018

Not worth your time

Not what I was hoping for. Have indulged my bourbon bug for a while; Makers Mark, Basil Hayden, Clyde Mays, Four Roses SB and single barrel, Lazy river, Buffalo Trace, etc. This is by far my least favorite. Very tame, almost bland. Nose almost non existent. Maybe it's just me or a bad bottle, but very disappointing.

It's the best bourbon I've ever had.!

A really nice Bourbon!

Just a nice and well balance Bourbon that I would recommand to anybody! Really smooth to drink and a very nice taste that stay in your mouth. I think it's worth it for the price!

10th March 2018

Better and cheaper than Knob or Woodford.

Always thought Jefferson or Woodford made this since it was a nice bottle and saw it on the top shelf whenever I saw it out and about. Had it 4 wks ago at Barton distillery where it’s produced. Excellent and my only bourbon I’ll buy over $40 as of now. Picked up a half gallon today for $58.

4th March 2018

A good bourbon and recommended to those at entry level

Not usually a big fan of rye, but thoroughly enjoyed 1792. A well balanced bourbon and well recommended.

Spicy notes, smooth to palate & great aftertaste. Definitely, a superbe choice. Do not think it twice wherever you find it... just grab it. Cheers!

Lovely drop of stuff

2nd one out of the advent calendar. Strong flavour, long finish. Very nice. Would buy.

31st December 2017

Just 'ok'

Nose - 4/5 - Warms the nose, makes you want to have a sip.
Taste - 2/5 - Once I had a sip, I found it to have an almost astringent flavor. Sort of off putting.
Will not buy another bottle.

16th December 2017

Excellent taste and very smooth. Definitely a must try.

5th October 2017

delicious and smooth

Superior to others I've tasted in the same class. Deserves a better rating, and certainly deserves to be ranked higher than Jefferson.
Smooth, velvety, dangerous in its soft mouth feel. Beautiful and delicious.

Best on the Market for affordable high end Bourbons

I have read many reviews of this Bourbon and can not understand such low numbers. I have tried Larceny, Buffalo Trace, and a bunch of other mid-range Bourbons, throw in a few so-called high end brands, and non- are as well balanced and full of flavor as 1792. I drink it with an ice cube and a splash of water. I can pick up a 1.75 L for $50+tax. This bourbon is the bomb and the price point is great.

30th November 2016

Nice for the price. Easy to drink. Fairly smooth with a good nose. For $22, I would say it is a good value. You certainly wouldn't be sorry that you purchased it. Not quite as good as the 9-10 year old Evan Williams Single Barrel or WL Weller, but good.

1792 is my Fav

Love this bourbon! One of my first pics as a new whiskey drinker....I couldn't have picked a better one👍

Great Value

This is my go to bourbon. The flavor is fantastic for a $30 bottle. (I'm not sure where our other friend from NY is buying his liquor. It's 29 in my NY neighborhood ) The sweet notes make this great to sip at the end of the day.

13th December 2015

Let Oxygen Get To It

I was disappointed with this when I first opened the bottle. It tasted "off" and it had the thinnest mouth-feel of any bourbon I have ever tried. But oxygen helped this whiskey immensely. In just a couple of days after bottle-opening the bourbon was completely transformed. I highly recommend it, and counsel just a bit of patience.

30th November 2015

Yes please

Very well made and wonderful finish. I paid $25 in Texas. :)

25th November 2015

Pour me another.

Sucks for the guy in New York. This was a real gem for $30 in Florida! Smooth and delicious.

20th September 2015

What kind of price is that?!?

It's a delicious bourbon, but I'm from one of the more expensive states (New York) and it's regularly under $30. It's a great value here, butterscotch, praline; sweet and smooth vs some of the more rough and tumbles. Refined. But $80 is absurd. And to give you an idea of NY pricing, eagle rare 10yr is $10 more a bottle than across the state line to Connecticut. That's more than a 25% increase in bordering states. So I'm in an expensive area and you're charging triple my local price. Staggering. It's reasonable up to $35 if it's that rare in your community, otherwise walk away.
