A 20cl bottling of Balvenie's excellent 12 Year Old DoubleWood, aged in refill American oak casks before being finished in European oak Sherry casks.
Gristy, supple nuttiness intertwined with spices. Honeyed sultanas and grapes. Hugely inviting.
Sweet with good body. The bourbon characters develop; gentle spice with a little vanilla, a hint of balancing peat lurking quietly in the substrata. Dried fruit too, combining with nuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, back into the bourbon notes - so well integrated.
Spicy, slightly drying, still sweet.
A classic, always a pleasure to revisit. (This is also a single malt with the ability to convert a non-whisky drinker with its deliciousness...)
$61.13 - $493.51
Incredibly smooth first taste then warming on the throat - almost a syrup fruitiness. Was encouraged to buy following the comments and not disappointed.
Decided to give this highly-reputed dram a go. I've been drinking cask strength Springbank, Kingsbarns and rye, so this made a lovely easy-drinking change. Not hugely complex, but very enjoyable indeed. Slightly understated classy-ness, with decent length and good mouthfeel. Would buy again.
Superb choice. More complex than the nose might suggest. Ample depth of flavour, a kaleidoscopic effect on the palette that just keeps going. Will definitely buy again if it returns to the shelves.
Have to echo the comments and tasting notes. This is a very smooth whisky. Usually have a drop of water with it, but it doesn't really need it as it stands up so well on its own. Love a Laphroaig but this is fast becoming a favourite.
Beautiful smooth drink with ice amazing
