Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Feinty. Smoke and a touch of mochaccino. There are some notes of leather and Madeira with a little chocolate.

Palate: Balanced. There are notes of cut herbs and a defined vegetal character. Fresh citrus and fudge. Touch of peat smoke.

Finish: Fruit, becomes dry.

Ballantine's 17 Year Old Reviews

Waste of money

This whisky proves that age statement means nothing. Even cheap NAS blends taste better. Good for mixing only. Should be avoided.

Weak

Having drank this overrated whisky I can not recommend it.even the old ballantines finest beats this.the metal cap.not the plastic cap.all the smoke has gone from the new ones.a bottle of ballantines used to mean something.

Forget it. It's done

I reviewed this a while ago. Have bought 3 bottles and loved them. Bought a bottle tonight. It's harsh, thin and grainy. I cannot tell you how much I despise the thugs who are deliberately ruining the most respected industry on Earth. You will all rot in hell!!

Thin and boring

Nose: not much to it, slight citrus, spice and a hint of mocca.

Palate: oaky, medium smoke, quite sharp on the alcohol, very distant hint of peat.

Finish: Dry, oaky, quite smoky, earthy/grassy hint.

Overall really boring and thin. Not much to it.

Yuk

If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Horrible stuff will never drink another ballantines again

Come on Chivas

Now is the time to return this blend to its rightful 43% ABV and quality.
Come on Chivas - you can do it!

Was perfect

Used to be absolutely stellar but since the reduction in abv not so much. Why did you have to alter something that was perfect? Just to make a couple pounds and then tarnish your reputation. Go back to the way it was previously and all will be forgotten.

if it aint broke why fix?

Was my favourite blend by far but seriously lacking in value since the reduction to 40%. Please guys, if it aint broke dont fix it, you've ruined a near perfect blend! 10 out of 10 for the old 17, 7.5/10 for the new. Nikka blended offers far better value amongst others. Wonder if Jim Murray will have the balls to review the new impression, it sure wont be 97/100 any more. Jim will be crying into his snifter like me

Bring back the old version

I am enjoying this whisky as it is a fine blend with a near perfect balance. However I will not be buying another until Ballantines restore the 43% ABV.

No longer such good value

It has always been a great whisky. What a shame they have reduced the ABV to 40%. I will be taking my custom elsewhere.
