Auchentoshan Springwood 1l

Auchentoshan Springwood Bottling Note

Auchentoshan's Springwood expression, which spends its maturation resting in American oak bourbon casks, was released for travel retail. Rich in vanilla and orange, this is a flavoursome Lowland single malt, from a top distillery that triple distils its whisky.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Light and fragrant with classic bourbon-cask vanilla and honey, with hints of orange oil shining through.

Palate: Chocolatey on the palate, with continued vanilla fudge and citrus peels.

Finish: A rather refreshing palate of lemon and orange.

Auchentoshan Springwood 1l Reviews

Not bad, not great. Certainly not terrible.

It's not the worst whiskey in the world as some people have said. It's pretty good. Heavy citrus, perhaps too heavy, I don't think I'd buy it again but I'm not upset to have a bottle. Enjoy in warmer weather or perhaps during the day.

Enjoyable lasting aftertaste

This was as a gift not tasted before.
A pleasant citrus aroma initially then a honeyed aroma, a light flavoursome malt. Very smooth.

Excellent summer evening drop

Hint of citrus, great length, perfect for the summer

Harsh. Not for people who like smooth Single Malts.

Its a little harsh on the nose n palate. A little bit of water is needed to change the flovour profile of this dram.

I find it an easy drinking expression

I like it quite well. My tasting notes would be a slight spicy nose with with a warm vanilla taste and citrus back end.

Just about drinkable

Got this as a gift. Glad I didn't spend money on it. There's a nice flavour under the harshness but it's not an easy drinking whisky like the 12. I'm a bit disappointed but I won't be pouring it down the gurgler like other reviewers.

Oooh yes.

Lucky enough to have friend in industry who gave me a sample of this. Really nice dram. Very smooth and totally came alive adding a little water. It really did.

Absolutely beautiful whisky

11th December 2016

Excellent - I love it

I have lost count of the number of bottles I have bought but it is without doubt my favourite whisky. If your taste is for smoke/peat then it may not be for you.

50% 50%

Whiskey is too young need to mixture with air let it set down for couple of minutes .
Else the alcohol will rush out from glass stright to ur nose .

Like it

Quite easy on the palate, its not your Laphroaig or Redbreast but for those looking for a citrusy and hint of chocolate and white fruit with none of the charcoal this is a very passable whisky, does not taste old though note that

Excellent stuff. Recommended

I disagree with most. I like it

I too have been a whisky drinker for over fifty years and am, it seems, in the minority here. It's one of my favourites
The nose is a bit thin but the flavours of orange marmalade and chocolate coupled with a softness, presumably from the bourbon oak, make this a malt to relax with. The length is medium.

Refreshing and summery

Really enjoyable dram, light fresh citrus nose and juicy citrus / sweet vanilla notes. Recommended summer Whisky

Good lowland

Fresh, light, and the green apple is there. A good lowland whisky

18th June 2016

One of my favorites

Highly recommend this if you enjoy smooth, mild whiskey as opposed to the flavor of smoldering logs. Very accessible and a great thing to serve at parties to people unaccustomed to scotch. Consider it a gateway libation.

add coke a cola

Add coke to this beauty will almost make it drinkable. Got it as a gift, feel sorry for the person that purchased it.....

Mr Colin Evans of Cambridge

I don't consider myself an expert ,but having drunk malt Whisky for over fifty years this one does nothing for me , bought it in airport on menorca for Christmas and found it like mouthwash . Back to Glenlivet for me .

The Soul-Quencher 78th

Fabulous! Essence of orange with hints of chocolate flecked throughout. Awaft of smoe and a flick of salt and pepper and more spring river run deep in the woods. A dram to revive a tired man.

Good drop

Enjoyable

No thank you

Just purchased a bottle on my way through Singapore, and won't be finishing it. Very little character, zero nose, finish reminds me of orange flavored vodkas. All around a disappointing bottle. Don't bother

7th November 2015

Disappointing

I have heard of this as having "clean spirit". If that means no flavour apart from ethanol it is pretty close. Some citrus peel on the nose and palate, apart from that, very little. Triple distilled to get rid of the higher alcohols and ketones (and flavour) and not long in wood to gain any complexity or flavour there.
Save your money.

Coloured water

I made the awful mistake of buying it.
Doesn't taste of anything. I can only taste a watered citrus. Very closed: no nose, no taste, no finish.
AVOID!

30th September 2015

Awful

Agree with the previous review re smelling of urine. Tastes more like a vodka than a malt.i threw my bottle out. Avoid at all costs

6th August 2015

Not a good drink

Not sure if its just the bottle I got, there is a smell like urine. And the whisky has not much character at this price.

22nd June 2015

Better than expected

I disagree with the other review, and was pleasantly surprised by this whisky. It's definitely not as good as the Auchentoshan Three Wood, but I find it still very enjoyable as a daily dram.

I actually like the pronounced young wood flavour, and the taste is very smooth with light citrus notes. Yes, there are better whiskies out there for this price, but this one definitely has its positive sides as well.

2nd April 2015

Burnt - very poor

Auchentoshan produce some excellent whisky - particularly I've enjoyed old bottles of the 10 year old, more recent bottles of 12 year old (which is also very reasonably priced and is my top tip for a bottle of Auchentoshan) and I have also drunk the 18 year old (too expensive for what you get but very pleasant). However, from this experience I would be very cautious about buying anything from them in the future, particularly anything without an age statement.

This whisky is extremely young bourbon cask whisky; by the taste about 6 years old. I suspect the casks haven't seen much bourbon and have been burnt badly so you are getting a lot of immature wood and burnt flavours. The result is a very poor whisky.

On the nose: burnt plywood, solvent, alcohol, rice vinegar, sweet glue, citrus - lemon peel and orange juice, charcoal

On the palate vanilla, sour lemon and zesty orange, burnt wood, slight bitter

Finish: Short-medium lemon, boiled sweets, burnt wood, something gluey.

I've had it open for about 6 weeks now - it's not as bad as when I first opened it but it still isn't worth drinking.

This is the only whisky I've ever tipped down the sink and without doubt the worst single malt I have ever tasted. The only reason to buy a bottle of this is to educate yourself about bad whisky.
